These features include performance, reliability, fuel efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and probably the most important of all, safety. The deadline to claim from a particular class action settlement is getting closer, and some eligible citizens could get up to $875. Check today to see whether you qualify for a potential payment from this class action settlement.

The settlement that will be paid out soon

If you are a fan of Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac, chances are you have heard of General Motors (GM), an American automotive manufacturing company. The international company is known to prioritize “zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion” when it comes to its vehicles; however, not even GM can avoid defects all the time.

The company recently became involved in a class action lawsuit due to a specific defect. According to the plaintiffs, some GM vehicles were issued with a defective shifter that resulted in a “Shift to Park” problem. The plaintiffs claim that the problem also prevented drivers from turning off their vehicles and resulted in other issues.

The company denied all allegations, but has agreed to a settlement with an undisclosed amount to resolve all the allegations made. Now, all eligible class members who were affected by the defective shifter can claim from this settlement.

These citizens will be deemed eligible for the settlement

Class action lawsuit settlements such as this one are a welcome consolation to consumers who have been wrongfully affected. However, in order to claim from the settlement, consumers will have to meet certain criteria to be deemed as eligible class members.

According to ClassAction.org, the following consumers will be deemed as eligible class members:

Initial Ohioan purchasers and lessees of

2017-2019 GMC Acadia

2019 Chevrolet Blazer

2016-2019 Chevrolet Malibu

2018-2019 Chevrolet Traverse

2016-2019 Chevrolet Volt

Initial Tennessee purchasers and lessees of

2017-2018 GMC Acadia

Any of the above consumers who pursued a GM dealer to repair the defective shifter during the warranty period, but did not receive any repairs, or received repairs that weren’t a silicon-free replacement shifter assembly or a silicon-free shifter control wire harness, will also qualify for reimbursement. The settlement will offer different reimbursement options to class members, depending on their expenses.

The deadline to claim is getting closer

According to the settlement terms, class members will qualify for monetary reimbursements. These reimbursements are indicated as:

Cash payments up to $500

These payments are distributed equally among class members who co-owned or co-leased one of the affected models. All class members who appear in the warranty data will automatically receive the cash payment and thus do not have to apply.

Out-of-pocket expenses up to $375

Class members who experienced out-of-pocket expenses due to repairs concerning the defective shifters will automatically receive reimbursements if they appear in the warranty data.

Any class member who does not appear in the warranty data will have to submit a valid claim form, with the supporting documentation, by the deadline of August 19, 2025. The objection and exclusion deadline is July 21, 2025. The payment date has not been officially confirmed, but these payments are usually distributed after the court’s approval at the final approval hearing.

The GM class action lawsuit settlement’s final approval hearing has been scheduled for August 22, 2025. That means that reimbursements can be expected in the following weeks, should the lawsuit receive final approval.
