Unfortunately, Florida is also known for its high number of suspended licenses. Fortunately for this state, Operation Green Light is returning, offering a fresh start for its drivers with suspended driver’s licenses by waiving collection fees. We advise you not to wait, as the deadline is approaching on May 4, so you might want to hurry to one of the designated locations to apply.

Free driver’s licenses are coming to this state

As if having to go to all the trouble to reinstate your driver’s license isn’t bad enough, you are also faced with collection fees and who knows what other additional costs. Lucky for the people of Florida, Operation Green Light is in full swing. Never heard of it? You might not be the only one.

There are over 124,000 suspended licenses in the Miami-Dade community, with more than 1.2 million collection cases. Operation Green Light is an annual scheme to get residents legally back on the road. It allows drivers in Miami-Dade County to save on certain fees when reinstating their driver’s license. The operation has already been running for several years and has helped many people deal with the ripple effect of being prohibited from driving.

The goal of the initiative

Suspended licenses always come with fines and additional fees related to traffic citations and court costs. These costs might create extra burdens for the person behind the case, hampering their lives by the inability to drive legally, whether to work, to school, or to proceed with living fully in their city. Now, thanks to the initiative, drivers can reinstate their licenses at reduced cost as collection fees will be waived. The financial pardon will allow affected people to spend the money saved on other essentials rather than state debts.

The Clerk of the Court and Comptroller, Juan Fernandez Barquin, recently declared to NBC Miami that the initiative “has helped customers resolve over 17,000 cases, with a total savings of more than $1,053,548 in collection fees.”

Some residents wish they were aware of the initiative before visiting the court office, including a local man named Jonathan, who paid nearly $300. He believes the additional fees associated with reinstating his licenses could rather have been used for essentials such as groceries or items for his daughter.

“That is awesome for everyone, I wish they would have done it earlier, that would have helped me a lot but I think it’s very necessary and I think that means someone’s actually listening.”

You can get your reinstated driver’s license in these areas

Unfortunately, many people do not realize their licenses have been suspended until too late. Anything from an unexpected move to unopened letters being tossed aside could easily take your freedom to move freely around the country away. Do not take this freedom for granted. Affected residents are advised to take advantage of Operation Green Light, which can be done online or in person at designated locations.

The designated locations include Coral Gables District Court, Hialeah District Court, Lawson E. Thomas Courthouse Center, and Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building. They are open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM. The Joseph Caleb Center Court, North Dade Justice Center, and South Dade Government Center will offer extended hours on Thursdays from 9 AM to 8 PM and Saturdays from 9 AM to 1 PM.

Operation Green Light is only running for two weeks, until its deadline on May 4, so do not postpone this golden opportunity for too long.
