Although we know how essential seatbelts are, at times we can dismiss them; however, they play a very safe and important role in a driver’s and passenger’s life. Mercedes-Benz USA has issued a recall affecting two of its Sedan model lines due to a seatbelt anchor that may be loose. As reported by Autoevolution, the looseness of the anchor seatbelt can hinder it from holding the driver properly in case of an accident and increase the risk of injury.

How Mercedes-Benz found out about the seatbelt problem

The recall is very vital, as it affects quite a number of models from the Mercedes-Benz brand and the ones produced recently. Owners are being advised to act promptly and have their vehicles inspected. It might look like a minor issue because it is “just a seatbelt”; however, what lies ahead is unpredictable and getting it fixed and repaired is the wisest decision to make as an owner.

An automotive report by Autoevolution states that a complaint was made from outside the United States regarding the seatbelt being loose while driving. Immediately, the car brand investigated the issue in January 2025 after learning about this issue. Furthermore, the Stuttgart-based manufacturer expressed that an employee failed to follow the rework data procedures. Americans have not sent a complaint yet about this issue.

Models affected by this recall, and why ignoring a seatbelt issue is not recommended

A report compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that the affected models are the MERCEDES-BENZ/AMG C43/2023-2024 and MERCEDES-BENZ/C 300/2022-2024. In other words, the recall affects 2022 and 2023 Mercedes-Benz C300 sedans, built between June 24, 2021, and May 30, 2023. NHTSA claimed that it is possible that the driver-side seat belt cover is not attached to the seat belt tensioner correctly.

There have not been any reports of accidents or injuries because of this issue yet; however, Mercedes is ensuring that every step is taken to fix it. Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz AG’s rework has been restructured to ensure that the same mistake is not repeated, even for the vehicles being manufactured currently. This seatbelt recall cannot be ignored because it plays a role in saving lives whenever something dangerous transpires on the roads.

The remedy: Here’s what to expect as an owner

NHTSA and Autoevolution reported that owners will be notified, and dealers will inspect and repair at no cost. Additionally, by the 16th of June, 2025, mails are expected to be sent with full details. A repair is straightforward; the dealer will check if the seatbelt cover is correctly attached to the seat belt tensioner. If not, the repairer will secure it properly in its rightful position for your safety.

Luxury brands with a reputation, such as Mercedes, are not immune to these kinds of mistakes and recalls; it happens to the best of all brands. Since we live in a fast-paced world, the demand is high, and at times, these automakers are forced to meet those demands, which then leads to mistakes and inconveniences that cause recalls. There have been worse recalls, such as brake failure, car batteries, and more.

The urgent call for these models is also worth noting, as this is common in the current era we are in. Is it good? No, however, it is happening more than it should or more than we expect it to. In collaboration with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Mercedes will now take each step to double-check other vehicles that are in the manufacturing process and those ready to go into the market to avoid the same issues and other mistakes that could be worse than seatbelts.
