BYD began as a battery company but quickly branched out into electric vehicles (EVs). The company is smashing sales and beating rivals all over, thanks to their cars driving everywhere, besides the US. BYD has one specific car that it seems the US will most likely never get to see. Critics believe America is not missing out on much, but the majority of people tend to gush about this BYD EV.

America will never get to see this car

BYD’s eyes are firmly set on besting the electric vehicle sector, but it will sell you a hybrid if you’re not quite set on life with an EV forever. One EV in particular has many attractive qualities that make it stand out in the EV sector, such as good levels of equipment, decent practicality, and a low starting price. BYD’s overall vehicle sales volume even ended up surpassing the automotive giant, Tesla, in Q4 2023, according to the BBC.

It seems as if America might never be able to enjoy this specific model due to the infamous “Liberation Day” tariff enforced by the Trump administration. Per arsTECHNICA, the US also plans on banning Chinese-connected car software and hardware due to potential security risks. Reuters confirms that the US Commerce Department’s de facto ban will result in the ban of most Chinese vehicles.

That’s a shame, as the US will be missing out on none other than BYD’s EV, the BYD Dolphin.

The performance of BYD’s Dolphin

The Dolphin is a suitable EV for city-slickers, as it offers a balance of power and efficiency. It has quick acceleration and a sensible range. It is powered by BYD’s Blade Battery, which has passed many extreme tests in precise conditions, marking it one of the world’s safest batteries. It offers two battery sizes: a 44.9 kWh unit or, as tested, the 60.4 kWh pack, which will get you 265 miles (426 km) per charge while feeding a 201 hp (150 kW) motor. Acceleration from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) takes 7.0 seconds, peaking at 99 mph (160 km/h).

The Dolphin has V2L technology, which can achieve 3.3kW external discharge, allowing the EV to become a mobile power station, ideal for outdoor picnics and open-air movies. It has a 100 kW DC charger and can thus be recharged from 30% to 80% in just 29 minutes.

The Dolphin showcases understated modern style and comfort

The BYD Dolphin hatchback comes with the new ‘Ocean aesthetics‘ design concept. Colors to choose from include pale pink or two-tone combos. The bodywork has a cosmopolitan outline mixed with sharp creases and flowing contours, indicating an equally confident and elegant design, all reinforced by an all-electric powertrain. The front and rear lights’ design was inspired by dolphins’ dynamic motion as they jump out of the ocean, with the rear light graphics twisting gracefully.

The interior has plenty of sleek design notions, such as eccentric door handles and curvy surfaces, creating overall joy. Drivers are treated with a 5-inch display for speed, range, etc., on a metal trim detail that spreads across the whole dashboard, forming a beautiful, minimalist curved surface. A 12.8-inch touchscreen can be found in the modern suspended center of the car, creating a futuristic, dynamic driving environment. There’s plenty of space for rear passengers, as well as the tall. It has a 12.2 cubic foot (345 L) trunk, which can hold a small family’s weekly shop and the usual household “stuff” without issue.

There’s a reason the Dolphin has been helping to boost BYD’s sales, and even Tesla knows it. Overall, this fun and modern car is perfect for any city-slicker who wants to move quickly and safely between tall skyscrapers, and especially for those who want to do it in comfort and style.

The Chinese automotive company, BYD, does not beat around the bush.
