According to reports, this is not the first time this has happened, and it may not be the last. At least 1,000 people should receive the voucher, which will be delivered soon. Here in this article, we have put together everything you need to know about the application forms and how to check if you are eligible to take part in this incentive program for drivers.

Drivers may receive up to USD$ 2,000 from this incentive program

An announcement recently made caused a commotion among drivers from one North American state. According to some sources, the incentive project offered up to USD$ 2,000 for drivers who intended to change the way they drove through the city. The amount must be used to buy a new vehicle that fits the project criteria.

The initiative, which took place on May 29, was the second edition of this project, which will soon offer another chance for the drivers who were not eligible during the application period.

Indeed, this was not the first time that California offered vouchers for residents’ drivers who want to buy electric bikes. The California E-Bike Incentive Program, which is administered by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), is in its second edition and has already planned a third.

More than USD$ 2 million was given by the program

In its second edition, the California E-Bike Incentive Project will benefit up to 1,000 people who will receive vouchers between USD$ 1,750 and USD$ 2,000 that can be redeemed at approved retailers toward pre-selected e-bike models. This initiative is an incentive for drivers to change from cars and motorcycles to e-bikes, and happens at the same time that another US state chose to ban e-bikes from certain areas of the cities.

According to CARB, more than USD$ 2 million has been given by the program up to now. In a release sent to the press, they said: “The California Legislature approved funding for the project to help reduce cost barriers to e-bike technology that can help replace car trips, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and lower transportation costs for Californians with low incomes”.

Drivers had one day to apply to this round

Initially, the applications for this round were supposed to happen on April 29, but technical problems forced it to be postponed. According to CARB, a high volume of traffic and suspicious activity knocked down the site. To ensure the application ran smoothly, CARB hired two industry-leading firms that managed the visitor traffic and the application waiting room. As said by CARB, this decision was made to “ensure fairness and access for all interested Californians”.

The applications for this round were made by drivers on May 29, during a limited time starting at 5 p.m. As said by CARB, drivers who were in the waiting room after 6 p.m. were placed in a random queue and had an equal opportunity to apply. To apply, the drivers had to be over 18 years old and have a household income no more than 300% of the federal poverty level.

A third round of applications has already been scheduled

Due to the success of both rounds of applications, CABR expects to award a third round of e-bike vouchers in 2026. The initiative is also part of the plans to approach drivers to the e-bike technology. With this initiative, it is expected that more residents will get access to e-bikes, helping to spread this vehicle, which is carbon-free. Indeed, some cities around the world that aim for a green future are promoting initiatives to encourage citizens to look for alternative transport. In the case of these cities in America, cars have even been banned.

Seeking a word with better quality and lower carbon emissions, a North American state has decided to offer an incentive of USD$ 2,000 for drivers to buy new vehicles.
