Which started with a simple solar panel and windmills for other purposes, has now become a fundamental technology. Seeking more efficiency and economy, companies from around the world are releasing their new devices, and this one may be a potential game-changer for everything we know about wind energy. For the ones that still prefer solar panels, this new wind turbine may change your mind.

A new and ultra-efficient version of the old windmills

When we think about windmills, the picture of a beautiful landscape with green grass and an old windmill is the first thing that comes to our minds. For those who like technology, this image might be a little bit different, with wind energy sites powered by wind turbines. This technology is one of the most developed in terms of green energy, and the basis for many countries that search for sustainable energy.

Between innovations that aim to bring wind energy closer to people’s houses, many technological advances were made to adapt wind turbines to any type of geology. With smaller turbines that can be seen as a three-leaf to silent ones, this may be the ultimate invention regarding wind turbines.

Liam F1 Urban Wind Turbine (UWT), the windmill of the future

The Liam F1 Urban Wind Turbine (UWT) is a small and quiet wind turbine designed for urban use. It was developed by the Dutch company The Archimedes and created for domestic use. This wind turbine produces 1,500 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy per year, and it only needs a wind speed of 5 m/s, i.e., 18 kilometers per hour, or 9.7 knots.

When placed in a house with medium-to-high wind locations, the Liam F1 UWT will be able to generate energy to provide up to half of the energy needed to power the house. One of the largest models available is double in size and generates more energy per year.

Small, quiet, and can be installed in everyone’s house

Being the opposite of the traditional wind turbines, the Liam F1 UWT does not require a large space to be deployed. It is inspired by Archimedes’ Spiral, and has a diameter of 1.50 m and weighs approximately 100 kg. Due to its design, it can change its direction according to the wind direction, making it able to take even the smallest air currents. According to some sources, it will be able to extract 80% of the energy in wind.

Liam F1 UWT is also synergic with other renewable energy sources, such as solar panels, and may help to reduce the amount of electricity consumption of a residence. It would also help to mitigate CO2 emissions and save costs for households. This way, when the wind was not enough to generate the energy needed for a house, the owner would be able to switch to another energy source without compromising the power used to keep the house running.

This new wind turbine may be a game-changer for the future of wind energy

According to some sources, the Liam F1 UWT may be one of the most relevant devices to countries that search for a way to bring wind energy closer to urban space. With this small size and huge capability to generate power, it may be the key to a green future. At the same time, the efforts to improve wind energy around the globe are catching attention, and it appears that there are no limits for new creations. Recently, this country showed the power of wind energy by deploying one of the most impressive wind energy sites.

The search for new sources of renewable energy keeps promoting improvements and the appearance of new technologies.
