Besides being normal, this procedure can cause commotion between owners, and certainly will cause a considerable inconvenience. Recently, KIA has recalled more than 80,000 cars after discovering a major issue regarding parking lights that are not working properly. According to the company, the cars affected were Kia K5 in the 2025 model year. This information was confirmed through a recall notice submitted by KIA late May to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

More than 80,000 K5 cars in the 2025 model year were recalled

According to a recall notice sent by KIA in late May, which was posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, about 82,000 KIA K5 cars in the 2025 model year received the recall notice.

The first information is that the car’s parking lights could have problems with their software. The error occurs in the Power-net Domain Controller (PDC), and once it happens, this problem causes the lights to flicker, reducing the visibility of the vehicle to other road users and increasing the risk of a crash. Indeed, this is not the first time that the company has issued a recall; a similar situation happened in February 2025.

KIA has chosen to carry out the recall to repair the affected vehicles since the problem regarding the parking lights means that the car fails to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 108, which refers to “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment”. The affected component is considered essential to ensure the safety of the driver and passengers.

Two possible solutions for the problem

According to the recall notice made by KIA, the issue that caused the problem with the parking lights can be fixed with two possible solutions. The first one is by a dealership, while the second is with an “over-the-air” software update downloaded to the KIA vehicle.

Once the problem has been identified in their vehicle, each owner is responsible for contacting the dealership or following the instructions contained on the recall notice. Remember that in the event of a recall, the owner will not have to pay for the repair, as the problem is a serial issue that has affected several vehicles.

Your car was recalled? This is what you should do

Besides being a safety problem considered serious by the company, the malfunction is fairly easy to solve. If you identify that your car has the issue detailed in the recall notice, you should try to solve the problem with an “over-the-air” software update. This update can be downloaded directly to the car.

If you do not feel confident about carrying out the procedure yourself, KIA suggests that you seek the support of a dealership authorized by KIA. There is a service team that will be able to carry out the procedure and solve the problem for you. In any case, the owners will be properly notified by dealerships and will be instructed on the proper way to proceed with the repair.

How do you know if your car has been affected by the recall?

Owners of the model affected by the problem will be notified via letter by June 24. If you have any doubts about this issue, you should contact KIA customer service by phone at 1-800-333-4542. When asked, you must mention the number for this recall, which is SC341. Remember that the procedure will only be carried out on vehicles belonging to the model and lot whose factory problem has been identified.

For more information about this recall, check the report 25V-351 recall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall procedure for cars is a standard in the automotive industry when serious problems are identified in vehicle components and structures.
