However, one iconic bank is offering free cash to its customers and potentially interested parties who might be looking for an extra boost to their Christmas budget. The end of the year comes with a lot of expectations and gifts to buy for the family, which will no doubt be felt by the millions of shoppers all looking for the best deal. Now, an icon of the British and international banking sector is offering £400, no strings attached, well, maybe a few.

One bank is offering its customers a significant boost to their Christmas budgets

Christmas is a time to bring the family together and enjoy the majesty of the occasion. While some will be diligently budgeting and scheming in order to stretch their budgets as far as they can possibly go, a select group will see a substantially large sum of free cash being deposited into their bank accounts, with more to come in 2026.

Many companies and institutions are offering interesting and, in some cases, unbelievable deals to lure customers to their businesses. Now the United Kingdom has been given somewhat of a Christmas miracle from one of the oldest banks in the country. Barclays Bank has unveiled its plans to offer £400 to its existing and any new customers, but there are a few strings attached.

Barclays Bank is set to offer a substantial boost to new customers this year

The historic bank is offering its existing customers a £400 free cash injection directly into their bank accounts. The bank has made an unbelievable offer to try to lure in new customers by the end of the year. In order to receive the money, there are a few key details that need to be considered. Chief among those requirements is that new customers deposit £4,000 within 30 days of opening the account, then set up or switch in two or more direct debits.

Additionally, you would also need to be earning £75,000 a year or save or invest £100,000 with Barclays to get the 400 quid from the Barclays Premier Current Account. The bank states that once new customers have completed their switch, they can also get the linked savings account, which allows them to save a maximum of £5,000 a year and generates another £215 of interest.

Barclays is not only taking into consideration its Premium account holders, but current account holders, too

However, if you do not earn that many pounds, Barclays is also offering £200 cash up front to normal Barclays current account holders, so everyone will have a pleasant Christmas with a little extra cash in the bank. To qualify, normal current account holders will need to deposit £2,000 within the first 30 days, and only need to pay in £800 per month.

Martin Lewis recently stated on his podcast that customers would be mad not to, at the very least, consider moving to Barclays and receive the cash bonus for Christmas.

“If people are looking to make a little bit of extra cash right now, bizarrely they want to look at the banks. Because currently, there are seven banks willing to pay people free money in order to switch. And the biggest payer pays four hundred quid for your custom. So what I would say to people is, unless you’re so deliriously happy with your bank, because it gives you a nice massage every single time you deal with it, have a look at whether you can be paid or not.” – Matin Lewis

If your Christmas shopping has put a damper on things, consider moving banks

Christmas is a time when we reflect on the year passed and spend time with loved ones; however, the breadwinners might not enjoy that time of the year as much as they need to stretch their budgets to purchase everything on Santa’s list. Barclays Bank has taken the unexpected yet welcomed step to offer its customers, and anyone thinking of switching banks, a free cash injection with no repayment needed or overdraft to consider. Check to see whether you qualify before Christmas sneaks up.
