Hopes are high that we wake up to a better, more positive year in 2026, putting all the nightmares of 2025 behind us. Good news so far, as a £432 increase arrives in 2026. The payment boost has been confirmed for three eligible groups, and its payment schedule has also been released. Discover which three groups of people will qualify for the boost in the new year, and when these boosts can officially be expected.

Cost of living projections for the new year

While it may be impossible to predict the future outcomes with 100% certainty, we can at least consider certain projections to plan as much as possible. For instance, analysing prior financial data, trends, and present and future variables is key to creating seemingly accurate financial projections. One of the pressing economic topics of the past year has been the UK’s high cost of living.

The UK’s cost-of-living projections for the new year have a positive outlook so far. Throughout 2025, inflation was around 4%. According to the British Chambers of Commerce’s predictions, the rate may gradually lower to 3.5% by the end of 2026. However, even as inflation is predicted to fall and the cost of living gradually eases, some Britons will remain highly dependent on financial aid.

Fortunately, a £432 increase arrives in 2026 for three eligible groups. Will you also be eligible?

£432 increase arrives in 2026 for three eligible groups

The House of Commons Library has released the official changes that beneficiaries of a particular benefits programme can expect. These official changes are the result of the policy called the Universal Credit Act 2025.

The three groups that may be eligible for the $432 increase are:

Employed individuals on low income (including the self-employed), or

Individuals who are out of work, or

Britons who are unable to work due to a limiting health condition or disability

Couples may also qualify for the increase. However, it has been clarified that new claimants of the “limited capability for work-related activity” (LCWRA) element of the Universal Credit will not benefit from the £432 increase. Furthermore, legacy benefits will be replaced by Universal Credit in 2026, and beneficiaries are recommended to switch as soon as possible.

The confirmed schedule of the upcoming changes

The benefit payment amount will differ among single and joint claimants, but both parties will benefit nonetheless.
