This New Yorker spent $700 at the mechanic, only to discover what the source of the problem was. One of the most important pieces of advice vehicle mechanics will tell you is to never ignore unusual sounds coming from your vehicle. While vehicle maintenance is one of the more boring and laborious parts of owning a car, it ensures that you do not encounter a more expensive problem with your engine in the future, which could have been avoided had you given it the proper care.

Do not ignore strange sounds from your vehicle

For most vehicle owners, when strange and unusual sounds start to emerge from their vehicle, they will hope that the problem resolves on its own and may ignore it for as long as they can. However, the problem will not necessarily resolve itself, and the sound could point towards a more serious problem, such as leaking or overheating, and continued use without taking the car to the mechanic can result in permanent damage to your vehicle, which will be costly to fix.

Thankfully, the digital age we live in today has meant that vehicle owners, especially those who have little knowledge of cars, can make use of a plethora of free resources to help identify what types of unusual activity from your engine could indicate a bigger problem. By making use of these resources, vehicle owners can save money in the long run by educating themselves on early warning signs to look out for.

Among vehicle owners who want to ignore the problem as far as possible, others are more attentive to the sounds their vehicle makes and will attend to the problem straight away. However, for those vehicle owners, it can be incredibly frustrating when you are on top of your vehicle maintenance, yet you still cannot get to the bottom of the problem despite the resources that you make use of.

Such is the case for TikTok user @imnotaleximanalien, a New York citizen who posts videos on her private account documenting her daily life:

“I literally took my car in for this cracking noise under the dashboard to find out it was this the whole time,” the text in her video describes.

@imnotaleximanalien goes on to describe that she spent $700 trying to locate the ‘crackling’ sound, only to find out that the origin of the sound was the fireplace ambient noise her vehicle played. The incident is an example of how, sometimes, the fix to a vehicle problem is much smaller than one may think. However, it is always good to ere on the side of caution, and @imnotaleximanalien demonstrated responsibility by taking her vehicle in to be attended to when she could not locate where the sound was originating from.

Take extra care of your vehicle this winter

With the New Year brining in some of the coldest months of the year, it is even more of an imperative to bring extra attention to your vehicle. While older vehicle models may take more strain this time of the year than newer ones, your engine still has to work harder during winter to hear up the vehicle, meaning without the proper care, you risk putting excess strain on it.

Even with modern vehicles being adapted to withstand the more extreme weather conditions, it never hurts to take additional precautions to ensure that your engine remains in top-shape. Take note of any early signs of engine wear, additionally, in order to prevent other expenses from racking up the longer you take to attend to it. Further, make use of the of the free resources online from car experts that provide extra insight into looking after your vehicle in winter.
