“Tis the season to be jolly!” For those who do not find joy in all the upcoming festivities, perhaps the news of additional benefits will bring you a smile. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is offering £812 before Christmas. While it may seem too good to be true, a little-known programme is opening this November, and it will make a world of difference. Discover all the details about this programme today, and perhaps you could learn how to qualify for additional money before all the festivities.
A little-known programme opens this November
It is no secret that the cost of living in the UK is generally extremely high, but with the upcoming holidays and colder winter temperatures, things could turn for the worse. Seasonal increases are expected, but that does not mean that people are necessarily thrilled, especially as energy and food expenses are predicted to increase this season. As Britons across the UK brace themselves for impact, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Certain programmes, whether they be governmental or not, bring renewed hope to those who need it the most. Seasonal benefit programmes provide financial assistance to qualifying low-income households, helping them afford essentials such as heating during the winter. However, there is a little-known programme that is opening this November, and the DWP is offering £812 through it.
DWP is offering £812 before Christmas
There is no shame in admitting that we need help, and with the seasonal increases, financial assistance is unavoidable. The one little-known programme that could make a difference before Christmas is the Budgeting Advance Loan. This programme will allow you to borrow a certain amount to help you pay for the following:
- Clothes or footwear
- Costs linked to moving house
- Costs linked to getting employment
- Funeral costs
- Furniture or household items
- Maintenance, improvements, or security for your home
- Maternity costs
- Rent in advance
- Repaying hire purchase loans
- Travelling costs within the UK
- Repaying loans taken for the abovementioned
The best part is that you only have to pay back the amount you have borrowed. A programme you should also consider is the most-awaited programme every autumn, which offers £7,500 for upgrade costs and installation expenses to your home before the first snow.
This is how you can qualify for the money
You will only qualify for a Budgeting Advance Loan if you have been the recipient of certain benefits for six months. According to the UK Government, recipients of the following benefits will qualify:
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Income Support
- Pension Credit
Please note that recipients who transitioned from Universal Credit to Pension Credit can utilise the time spent claiming Universal Credit towards the required six months. The minimum amount one can borrow is £100, and the maximum is:
- £348 for singles
- £464 for those with partners
- £812 when you or your partner claims Child Benefit
Just remember that you must be able to pay back the loan. If not, be warned that HMRC can now take cash straight from your bank. The agency is on a mission to recover unsettled debt in the country, so hopefully, you will not become part of the problem.
There are, of course, other criteria that will be considered before determining how much you could loan. Besides the ability to pay back the loan, single people must have savings of £1,000 or more. Another factor that plays a key role is whether you are already paying back a Budgeting or Crisis Loan. If you are interested in this little-known programme, ensure that you are fully informed before applying.
