It may be the season to be jolly, but for many, it is the season to turn every stone in search of additional money to make ends meet. Thankfully, some may not have to look much further, as the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) opens the next queue for November payments, and nearly 9 million people are to receive up to £300. Discover what eligibility requirements must be met to qualify for these payments (as they are written in stone), and when the next round of payments will be.

Rolling a stone out of the way

Winter tends to throw some stones in our paths, especially due to seasonal increases in the cost of living. Some people may face small stones in their paths, while others face gigantic boulders. No matter what your circumstances are, there is always something or someone to help, especially this winter. As Lou Holtz once said:

“It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it.”

Whether someone will help you carry the stone or roll it out of the way, there is a way forward. The DWP will be rolling a stone out of the way for nearly 9 million people, as the next queue for November payments worth up to £300 has opened. Discover whether or not you will be 1 in 9 million people to qualify for financial support this winter.

Nearly 9 million people to receive £300

More people will qualify for Winter Fuel Payments thanks to recent reforms. If you are a resident of Wales or England, and you were born before 22 September 1959, you will most likely be one of 9 million people to receive a payment of up to £300. However, to qualify, you must also meet the annual income limit, which is:

  • Taxable income of £35,000 or less annually

Please note that there are circumstances under which some pensioners will no longer be eligible to receive Winter Fuel Payments, which are:

  1. Residing outside Wales and England
  2. Requiring permission to enter the UK with granted leave, indicating that you may not benefit from public funds
  3. Receiving complimentary in-hospital treatment during the entire qualifying week (15 to 21 September 2025), as well as the year before
  4. Being imprisoned during the entire qualifying week
  5. Permanently residing in a care home since 23 June 2025 or earlier, while receiving certain benefits such as Income Support or Pension Credit

DWP’s next queue for November payments

Varying payments between £100 and £300 started going out on 1 November 2025. If you have not received a payment yet, do not fret, as the DWP’s next queue for November payments has opened. According to the UK Government website, the Winter Fuel Payment will be distributed automatically from November to December.

The Winter Fuel Payment amount will be based on the recipient’s age. Reports indicate that those over the age of 80, depending on their circumstances during the qualifying week, will most likely receive higher payment amounts.

All eligible Britons should have received a notice from the DWP informing them of the payment amount to expect, as well as the account where the payment will be deposited. Anyone who believes they are eligible but hasn’t received a letter or payment by 28 January 2026 is advised to reach out to the Winter Fuel Payment Centre.

These payments can be true lifesavers during the colder winter months, but some people face even greater obstacles, especially concerning energy debt. However, there is always a way. A new £2,000 payout is available to qualifying families specifically struggling with energy debt. With the payouts happening right before Christmas, it may be the ‘Christmas miracle’ that thousands have hoped for. Remember, by staying informed of all winter support programmes and grants, you too can experience a Christmas miracle or two.
