With Christmas approaching as fast as a Formula 1 car, some citizens of the United Kingdom are set to receive an extra payment in December. The UK has become one of the most expensive countries to live in due to the inordinate high cost of living. While some opt to find additional work, others who are not able to do so rely on the substantial social and health welfare benefits that His Majesty’s government offers eligible citizens of the UK. What could be better than getting a few extra quid in your bank account just in time for Christmas?

Millions of Britons have been saved by the significant benefits of the state

Millions of UK citizens have managed to keep putting food on the table as well as keep their homes warm and toasty through the litany of social and health welfare benefits that the UK government offers its citizens. Universal Credit has been a major driver of reducing poverty and boosting the economic status of millions of Britons over the years, but another benefit is set to hit UK citizens this Christmas.

Through the myriad of benefits, millions of Britons have managed to make ends meet in a world that has become exceedingly expensive to live in. While the Winter Fuel Payment has been a popular benefit among the populace, especially when the chilly winter weather blankets the nation in snow, another Christmas-time benefit is set to hit eligible bank accounts in the coming days.

Christmas isn’t the same without a few gifts from the ones we love

As Christmas approaches at an accelerated pace, many people in the UK may find their loved ones turning into the Grinch. The expectation of having extra pounds stashed away for Christmas shopping can be a burden that many struggle with; however, millions of Britons are set to receive their annual Christmas Bonus from the state this week.

The qualifying week for the Christmas Bonus is here, so be sure to check your eligibility

The annual once-off tax-free Christmas Bonus from the government is set to hit eligible bank accounts this week. The qualifying week for the annual £10 Christmas bonus runs from 1-7 December this year. To receive the gift from the government, the only requirements are that you claim one or more of the 20 benefits offered by the state and that you currently reside in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, or Gibraltar.

Important to remember that no application is needed, and the payment from the government will be automatically paid into your bank account and will appear on your bank statement as ‘DWP XB’. The latest statement from the DWP on Christmas Bonus eligibility outlines the details of when you may receive the gift, but if you have not received your Christmas Bonus by 1 January, contact either Jobcentre Plus or the Pension Service.

As millions of Britons are set to receive their money from the Household Support Fund in December, it may be a bit confusing with all the benefits coming around the same time. Importantly, if you have not yet claimed your State Pension and do not claim one of the other qualifying benefits, you will not get a Christmas Bonus this year.

The long-anticipated Autumn Budget revealed some concerns for Britons

As the qualifying week for the annual once-off tax-free Christmas Bonus is heading to a close, another development may be raising alarm bells for millions of Universal Credit beneficiaries. Following the long-anticipated Autumn Budget, millions of claimants may be subjected to an investigation by the state. Reforming the social and health welfare benefits system can save billions of pounds in the long run. However, the Christmas Bonus will remain unaffected, so be sure to keep an eye on any incoming payments into your bank account this week.
