As responsible and caring parents, we want to ensure that our children receive the best care possible, and this does not come cheaply. In the UK, navigating childcare expenses is no easy feat. Luckily, qualifying parents can receive £500 every three months from a certain nationwide offer. Discover how you and your partner (when applicable) can qualify for the payment this November. While it may not seem like much, £500 could go a long way when used strategically in your budget, but that is for you to judge.
Navigating childcare expenses in the UK
With the high cost of living, a two-income household is the norm for some UK families. For these households with children, childcare is inevitable, including the high expenses that accompany it. Naturally, factors will influence the exact cost of childcare, including the type of care and the child’s age. Location is also a vital factor, as some regions will experience childcare expenses that are higher than the national average.
According to the UK Government, this is the national average childcare cost for fifty hours per week for a child under two years old:
- £228 weekly for childminders
- £263 weekly for day nurseries
When calculating it according to the total number of working weeks for an average UK employee, which is between 46 and 49 weeks, annual childcare costs could set you back between £10,488 and £11,172 for childminders and between £12,098 and £12,887 for day nurseries. The high cost of childcare is a significant problem for most families. Thankfully, a nationwide offer will allow qualifying parents to receive £500 every three months.
Parents can receive £500 every three months
Parents could receive up to £2,000 annually, thanks to a scheme called Tax-Free Childcare, which provides financial assistance for childcare expenses. According to a report by Best Start in Life, qualifying parents can expect the following exact amounts:
