The UK’s beloved Christmas market is back

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, not only for locals and visitors alike, but also for the entire UK winter economy! Since the very first Christmas market in Lincoln in 1982, these markets have grown into major events and a popular tradition throughout the UK. What started small initially rapidly grew into a major contributor to the country’s seasonal economy, attracting thousands of visitors and increasing local spending.

These markets may be inspired by German-style markets, but do not fear, as visitors can expect to find numerous beloved seasonal UK treats and drinks, such as mulled wine and cider. This year, a UK city will welcome back a beloved Christmas market, with two brand-new polar attractions to pique the interest of visitors everywhere. Discover which city is going all out this year!

These attractions will return this year

The UK’s Christmas markets may not have been around as long as the rest of Europe’s markets, but this year, the UK is home to the second-best Christmas market in Europe. As for the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, it will be rocking out this year as it brings out the festive ‘vibe’ in everyone for the preparation of Christmas. That’s right, the Newcastle Christmas market will return this year, hoping to match the 1.7 million visitors in 2024.

The Christmas experience will return to the heart of the city soon, and visitors can look forward to the following attractions’ return:

  • Christmas Village at Old Eldon Square
  • Igloos at the North Pole Terrace
  • The Moosenwirt Alpine Bar
  • Santa Stories
  • Live shows at the Rockin’ Reindeer Stage
  • Mrs Claus’ Bakery workshops
  • Stalls operated by local traders, including Grainger Market vendors

The Newcastle Christmas market promises fun for the entire family. But wait, there’s more! Brand-new polar attractions will be seen at the market this year, and they will fill you with glee.

Brand-new polar attractions will be seen this year

The Christmas Village at Old Eldon Square will be featuring a Marshmallow Land, where visitors can toast marshmallows over open fires. Old Eldon Square will also feature a brand-new Ferris wheel, allowing visitors to appreciate the scenic festive display from a new level. Cinephiles can look forward to the Festive Flix Area, featuring multiple screenings until 23 December.

The Newcastle Christmas market will officially be open to the public from Saturday, 15 November at 10:00 AM, until Tuesday, 23 December at 8:00 PM. This means even the latecomers will have plenty of time for last-minute Christmas gift shopping. There will be several Christmas events occurring in the surrounding area as well, including Leazes Park’s Northern Lights light trail.

For those with a British passport living abroad, wanting to return home for the holidays, be warned. Millions may have to rethink their holiday plans, as Britons will face new travel rules in these 29 EU countries. Thankfully, once registration has been completed, the entire travel process should become much simpler and quicker. Embracing change can be irksome, but on the bright side, you can look forward to freshly-made Yorkshire pudding wraps and delicious cider or mulled wine very soon!
