There are around 73 million Social Security beneficiaries in the US, many of whom rely on their monthly benefits as a source of essential funds. This is why beneficiaries need to follow the SSA benefits payment schedule so that they are aware when to expect their funds and can plan their budgets accordingly with no unpleasant surprises.

You can find the information on the dates that Social Security payment will be processed in the month of March 2025 below.

SSA benefits are going out in March 2025: Here’s the schedule

The third month of 2025 is already here and it’s time for a fresh round of Social Security payments. Most benefits under the SSA are planned according to the beneficiary’s birthdate and the payments are staggered through the month so that the system runs smoothly.

People who receive SSI (Supplemental Security Income) benefits will be paid on the first of each month unless under the conditions explained above. Those who receive both SSI and another form of benefit are scheduled for payment on the third of the month.

Beneficiaries who receive benefits based on someone else’s record, such as spousal or survivor benefits, will be paid according to the primary beneficiary’s date of birth.

Here are the dates to expect your SSA benefits:

  • Friday, February 28: SSI recipients were paid on this day. The original date was March 1, but because this fell on a Saturday, the payment was moved up to the closest business day.
  • Monday, March 3: This is the payment date for beneficiaries who receive SSI and another form of benefits. Those who live outside the US, who have their Medicare payments covered by the state, or who filed for benefits before May 1997 will also be paid.
  • Wednesday, March 12: This is the payment date for beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of any month, and they regularly go out on the second Wednesday of the month.
  • Wednesday, March 19: People born between the 11th and the 20th of the month will have payments processed on this day.
  • Wednesday, March 26: Those born between the 21st and 31st will be paid.

Keep in mind that people who chose to receive their funds via paper check will have to wait a few days for the postal service to deliver it.

How much are Social Security benefits in March 2025?

The amounts for Social Security benefits vary depending on the type of benefits. For retirees, the average amount is $1,976 a month, and according to the SSA, these beneficiaries make up more than 70% of the 73 million people who claim from the SSA.

The SSA’s most recent figures indicate that disabled workers drawing benefits receive an average of $1,580 monthly. Survivors benefits recipients get $1,546 per month. SSI program beneficiaries can expect $714 on average.

Increased benefits in 2025 due to the COLA

The Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2025 was set at 2.5%, meaning that SSA benefits went up by that percentage in January. The Social Security Administration’s stats indicate that the adjustment increased the average monthly retirement benefit by $49 from $1,927 to $1,976.

These are the maximum benefits amounts that retirees can expect in 2025:

  • For workers who retire at full retirement age this year, the maximum amount in benefits is $4,018 per month.
  • If workers retire early at age 62, the maximum benefit is $2,831 monthly.
  • For those who delay retirement until age 70, the maximum payment is $5,108.

Remember to only rely on information from trusted sources, such as the Social Security Administration’s official website or verified social media channels.

In other news about retirement benefits, Joe Biden signed a bill into law in January that affects pensions. It’s being hailed as a positive move to rectify a discrepancy in how Social Security benefits used to be limited under certain laws.
