We all have enjoyed a good game at some point in our lives, whether it be for the challenge of the game, to pass the time, or just to distract ourselves. Unfortunately, not all our private information is always protected as it should be. This was the case with GameStop and Facebook, which resulted in a class action lawsuit. As consolation, qualifying class members can now benefit from the lawsuit’s settlement, but its deadline is around the corner, so we advise you to check whether you qualify to claim from the settlement today.

A $4.5 million privacy class action settlement

Serious gamers may have heard of an American company called GameStop. GameStop is a video game, consumer electronics, and gaming merchandise retailer, and it is the biggest retailer globally. The company was founded in 1984 and was previously known as Babbage’s. In 1999, it became known as the retailer most of us know today.

GameStop has faced numerous ups and downs over the years, but one of the more recent downs involves Facebook and a class action lawsuit. According to the plaintiffs, the company breached the Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) after consumer information was shared with Facebook through its website tracking pixel. Facebook reportedly obtained information from GameStop about consumers’ purchased video game information, as well as the specific games they purchased.

GameStop denied all allegations, but agreed to a 4.5 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve the claims.

Only these citizens will be deemed qualifying class members

Seeing as the company is the biggest retailer globally, chances are high that you may be one of the citizens who were affected. All eligible class members will qualify for a reimbursement, as per the GameStop settlement terms. According to the terms, class members can claim the following from the GameStop settlement:

  • Cash payments, or
  • Vouchers

It is important to note that class members can only claim one of the above options, and may not receive both a voucher and a cash payment. All cash payments will be a maximum of $5 per class member, and the vouchers will be a maximum of $10 per class member. As seen with many other class action lawsuit settlements, only certain citizens will be deemed eligible class members.

Only these citizens are eligible class members

Individuals who bought a video game from the GameStop website between August 18, 2020, and April 7, 2025, and had a public Facebook profile with their real name at the time of purchase.

The settlement’s deadline is sooner than you think

The GameStop settlement also promised more than cash payments and vouchers to eligible class members. The company will be required to halt its website’s Facebook tracking pixel operations. This ensures that the consumer’s privacy will be better protected and keeps GameStop compliant with the VPPA. Unlike other settlements, applicants do not have to provide any documentation as proof of purchase.

Any interested applicants must submit a valid claim form by the upcoming deadline, which is:

  • August 15, 2025

Claims can be submitted online, or the form can be downloaded as a PDF and mailed to the Alldana v. GameStop Settlement Administrator. The exclusion and objection deadlines are also on August 15, 2025. The settlement’s final approval hearing has been scheduled for September 18, 2025.

The official payment date has not been announced, but payments are usually distributed after the final approval hearing. As you await the court results of the final approval hearing, have a look at this class action lawsuit settlement to see if you could potentially qualify to claim. While the amounts may not exactly change your official financial status, they at least serve as a form of justice. Who knows, there may be another game or two with your name on it, so go file your claim today!

Disclaimer: You should not submit false or inflated claims under penalty of perjury, as class‑action claim forms historically required declarations signed “under penalty of perjury” to ensure authenticity. Submitting a fraudulent claim not only carries legal exposure—including potential civil and criminal sanctions—but also harms other eligible class members by diluting the available settlement pool.
