When we think of going green or renewable energy, Germany is often mentioned. The European country has been one of the leaders in promoting a green environment and setting the standards on a global scale. However, the country is now running out of photovoltaics and facing an energy crisis. Many residents and citizens of the country are losing interest in pushing to have solar panels and switching to other conventional solutions.

According to France24, there has been one renewable energy solution called balcony solar panels, but it seems like the decline in solar energy is far more than being able to trigger an interest in Germany actually trying to switch to something more sustainable. The decline in renewable energy has been caused by factors such as war and the rise in cost of living that have just individuals feel as if installing solar panels might just break their banks.

The emergence of Germany’s money-saving energy revolution: Balcony Solar Panels

Since Germany is in a renewable energy crisis, there has been a rise in something much smaller and efficient for basic electricity needs and consumption called balcony solar panels. From the word “balcony,” it is quite obvious that they are installed on one’s balcony and generate a moderate amount of electricity from the sun. It is more suitable for urban settings, apartments and any building with a balcony.

In a report by France24, by the end of last year, more than 800,000 of the panel kits were installed and this came as some Germans felt the desire to have something that could cut costs in the midst of high energy costs. About three million of these solar kits are now functioning in the whole of Germany. Although there is a decline in renewable energy usage, these balcony panels are easy to install and cheap too.

They can be utilised for small energy tasks such as charging smartphones and powering the washing machine, according to France24.

America’s reaction towards Germany’s energy dilemma

Germany is perceived as a country that is pushing hard to go green; now, for it to have this energy dilemma has sent shockwaves across the globe, especially in the United States. Remember, there are countries that are still growing into this sustainability idea and trying to find permanent solutions to avoid using energies that produce fossil fuels. The U.S. is one of those countries and they have been watching how Germany does it.

Therefore, if a country that is looked up to starts to crack, it is concerning for nations. Hence, the U.S. was shocked. What does it mean now? It means America will start to fear that the same thing could potentially happen to them after investing so much money and time to go solar. What we need to understand is that there is an excess of solar panels in Germany as a result of the decline in demand, which has also greatly eroded the cost of solar panels.

America has got private support, and Germany has got public support

America might not go through the same dilemma because its energy investment setup is very different from Germany’s. Germany depends more on the government’s regulations and its subsidies, while the U.S. has private investment and more advanced technology; therefore, America has a better chance to flourish and not experience a bad decline in solar demand compared to Germany.

Germany’s energy market has just been shaky and this is concerning because, besides the energy sector, even in the automotive sector, it is highly respected. But, another thing, it has been highly affected by China, which always comes in with a blow and always has a cheaper and more affordable option, and because of that, Germany has been placed in a corner.
