Dodge is releasing an engine capable of producing 670 hp, and no, this is not a drill. The Dodge Brothers Company had humble beginnings in 1900 in Detroit, and since then, it has survived eras of disease and war. Now, Dodge out of Detroit has been cooking up a storm, with its new engine posing direct threats to auto giants such as Ferrari and Lamborghini. The company has progressed from being a leader in the muscle car era to causing chaos for other industry leaders in the electric car industry in the sustainable era.

From the muscle car era to the sustainable era

The year 2020 will be remembered for a variety of reasons, with some memorable for less happy reasons than others. The beginning of the year saw a surge in the popularity of battery-electric vehicles (EVs), with many auto giants seizing the opportunity to explore the EV era with several models. This included Ferrari, which announced the Ferrari Elettrica, and Lamborghini, which decided to focus on hybrid models such as the Revuelto.

However, while EVs and even hybrid cars are popular due to benefits such as lower environmental impact and improved performance, not all automakers are fully committed. Dodge, which was bought by Chrysler in 1928, has been cooking up a storm with the Hurricane engine, proving that some things are not meant to change, but rather to evolve as it moves its muscle car forward into a modern era.

Just as Ferrari and Lamborghini tried and tested the EV era, and Lamborghini doubled down on a path beyond the EV era, Dodge, which still owns the Charger name, will launch the evolved 2026 Dodge Charger. According to the automaker’s website, this will be the most powerful muscle car in the world. The secret behind the car’s power? The Hurricane engine is a powerful 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged I6 engine.

While the new Dodge Charger Daytona will be all-electric, other models will feature the “Sixpack” (R/T and Scat Pack) that use the Hurricane engine. For those who are opting for the all-electric Daytona, it will also feature Sixpack trims, boasting an impressive 670 hp. The gasoline models will offer an output of 550 hp with the Scat Pack, and a standard output of 420 hp with the R/T model.
