While kids count down the days until Christmas, most adults count down how many days are left until their new SSA payment is made. Not everyone receives the much-anticipated Social Security payments on the same day, but according to the schedule, April 9 will most definitely be when many rejoice! Many Americans will wake up to the welcome sound of a payment notification, or at least the thought of knowing they have an extra penny or two to spare, and we are telling you who they are.

This is who receives SSA payments

USAgov defines the Social Security Administration (SSA) as a federal agency that distributes Social Security numbers and monthly Social Security payments to provide financial relief to specific eligible Americans. Every little bit of extra income helps, whether you need to settle the ever-growing pile of bills or you just want to treat yourself every once in a while.

According to the Social Security Fact Sheet, an average of 69 million people will receive monthly Social Security payments this year, and about $1.6 trillion in benefits will be paid. That is a lot of people and a lot of money, we know! Americans who rely on SSA payments include retirees, people with disabilities, and people who depend on spouse and children’s benefits.

How much money can Americans expect this April?

The 21st-century livelihood has become extremely expensive. Luckily, the SSA aims to provide some relief. The SSA website declared that the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment amounts increase when the cost of living increases, which then applies to Social Security benefits. This year, the COLA (Cost-of-Living) increase was 2.5 percent, bringing some much-needed relief, we’re sure.

For 2025, the SSA states most retirees will receive an average of $1,907 monthly, but payments can reach up to $5,180 for those retiring at age 70 and up to $4,018 for those retiring at full retirement age. According to the schedule, some were already lucky to have received their SSI payment on April 1, while other beneficiaries received their payment on April 3.

These Americans can expect a new SSA payment today, April 9, 2025

The payment schedule for 2025 follows a traditional benefit distribution method, which is why some Americans received the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) on April 1. Thankfully, the 1st was on a Tuesday this month, otherwise, beneficiaries would have had to wait until the last business day before the 1st. The SSI payment was up to $967 for individuals and $1,450 for people with an eligible spouse.

Beneficiaries who do not receive SSI will receive their benefits according to their birth dates. Some beneficiaries already rejoiced on April 3, but others will rejoice sooner than they think.

If you were born:

  • Between the 1st and 10th of the month, you will receive your payment on the month’s second Wednesday.
  • Between the 11th and 20th of the month, you will get your payment on the month’s third Wednesday.
  • Between the 21st and 31st, you will receive your money on the month’s fourth Wednesday.

According to the Social Security payment schedule for April 2025, everyone born between the 1st and the 10th will receive their payment today, April 9. If this is not a cause for celebration, we do not know what is.

So, it might not be Christmas yet, but at least some eligible Americans will wake up today with lighter hearts because today is the new SSA payment day, and they can pay their bills. We can already see people trotting down to their mailboxes or checking their apps, taking in the happy and relieving sight of extra income payments. To those still anxiously awaiting their payment dates, do not fret, your new SSA payment day will come sooner than you think.
