If you believe that mid-month is the worst, we could not agree more with you! By now, the most important bills should have been settled, with one or two perhaps being left to the last minute. Luckily for some, their Social Security payments are about to be distributed by the SSA. Cue the happy tears, people, because, from this month onwards, you could be eligible for a maximum payment of up to $5,108. Are you unsure whether you will qualify for this maximum payment? Well, bear with us, folks, because we are going to give you all the ins and outs.

What exactly is the Social Security Administration?

The Social Security Administration, also simply known as the SSA, will be distributing beneficiaries’ April benefits this week. Approximately 70 million Americans will benefit from either retirement, survivor, or disability benefits, with the majority receiving them in a lump sum. As a monthly occurrence, the payments result in relief for many.

Payments are made in an orderly fashion, being distributed according to recipients’ birth dates and the duration of their benefit payments. At the beginning of each month, the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is distributed first. The purpose of the SSI is to financially aid the elderly, blind, and disabled individuals.

This is when you can expect to receive your maximum payments

As we mentioned, the SSI benefits have already been distributed in the first week. Last week, on April 9, beneficiaries who were born between the 1st and 10th of any calendar month also received their benefit payments. This means, could we get a drumroll please, those beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th of any calendar month will receive their benefit payments tomorrow, April 16.

Beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st, do not fret, as your benefit payments will be distributed next week on April 23. Should your payment not have arrived as expected, the SSA asks that you wait at least three working days before reaching out to the agency. Take note, federal holidays and weekends are not classified as working days.

This is how much payment you could receive this month

Now that you know when you could receive your maximum payment, let us tell you how much you could receive. For those who depend on retirement benefits, your maximum benefit payment will be determined by the age you retire. This means that if you retire at full retirement age in 2025, your maximum retirement benefit payment could be $4,018.

However, according to the Social Security policy on maximum payment, if you retire at the earliest possible age in 2025, which in this case would be age 62, your maximum retirement benefit payment could be $2,831. Put simply, the earlier you retire, the less your maximum payment will be. The same goes for the longer you wait until you retire. If you retire at age 70 in 2025, your maximum retirement benefit payment could be $5,108.

SSI depends on a number of criteria

The SSI benefit payments are a little more complicated. The total benefit payment will vary according to certain factors, such as income, type of disability (if any), and the number of people living in the claimant’s household. If you applied as a single claimant this year, the maximum benefit payment would be $967 per month, and $1,450 per month if you applied as a couple.

April is a good month. It marks the first month that boosted benefits will be distributed to individuals who were formerly impacted by the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO). Both were revoked after the Social Security Fairness Act was passed in January this year. So, for those who receive their benefits tomorrow, we sincerely hope that you fully enjoy them!
