The Social Security Administration (SSA) is at it again! For the past 90 years, the agency has been managing and distributing benefits to US beneficiaries, and according to their latest notice, it will be distributing benefits soon. One specific group of beneficiaries will be receiving $5,000 according to the SSA’s official payment schedule. We advise you to continue reading to find out if you are among the group of people who will be receiving their SSA benefits soon.

The SSA will be paying Social Security benefits

The Social Security Administration, or SSA, distributes benefits to more than 70 million American beneficiaries on a monthly basis, including retirees, survivors of beneficiaries, and people with disabilities. Social Security benefits are crucial to the nation as they contribute to financial stability and its social safety net. For many, it could make the difference between having to decide between crucial medication and enough food for the household. This is why beneficiaries eagerly await their monthly benefits.

Benefits are typically distributed according to a schedule due to there being so many beneficiaries. Social Security benefits are usually distributed in accordance with the beneficiaries’ date of birth and the benefit type they receive. This excludes Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Understanding the SSA payment schedule will help beneficiaries plan their monthly budgets accordingly.

The Social Security payment schedule

As a rule of thumb, the Social Security benefits are usually distributed on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of each month, and each beneficiary’s birth date of any given month determines on which Wednesday they will receive their payments. Take note that this is applicable to anyone who filed their claims after May 1, 1997. In June, this rule of thumb will also be applicable, which means one group of beneficiaries will be receiving their Social Security payments soon.

According to the Social Security payment schedule, beneficiaries with a birthday between the 11th and 20th of any given month will be receiving their Social Security benefits on:

  • Wednesday, June 18, 2025

This means it is only three more days before the specified beneficiaries will be enjoying their benefits. If you do not receive your benefits on June 18, 2025, as expected, it is recommended to allow three working days before consulting the SSA. Please note that Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays are not considered working days.

One group of people will be receiving $5,000

Many people do not realize that the amount of Social Security they receive might differ from their family and friends. The reason why not everyone will be receiving the same maximum Social Security payment is due to their retirement age and the age they essentially start claiming benefits.

Maximum benefits according to retirement age

  • Retiring and claiming at age 62 will pay out a maximum of $2,831
  • Retiring and claiming at the full retirement age (FRA) of 67 will pay out a maximum of $4,018
  • Retiring and claiming at age 70 will pay out a maximum of $5,108

Based on the January 2025 average, beneficiaries can count on a retirement benefit of $1,976 per month. Beneficiaries who also receive SSI benefits can expect a maximum of $967 for individual claims and $1,450 for claims as a couple. However, even these payment amounts may vary based on factors such as:

  • Highest income for 35 years
  • Beneficiaries’ living conditions
  • Total years of contribution to Social Security
  • Other eligibility factors

As you can see, understanding how your age of retirement and the age you start claiming can impact your monthly Social Security payment can easily be used as a loophole to increase your monthly benefits. By delaying claiming benefits until the age of 70, you will receive the highest possible monthly payment. Beneficiaries should take note that delaying beyond 70 will no longer increase their monthly payment amount.
