Sweden's new EV

A supertanker left a Venezuelan port carrying about 1.8 million barrels of oil, and the shadow trick it used to fool maritime trackers reveals a hidden ocean that nobody was watching

Every massive cargo ship drops what looks like a hook the size of a car, and the thing that actually holds 100,000 tons of steel in place is something almost nobody ever sees

A 1,000-foot ship passes under a 96-year-old bridge over the Columbia River with potentially less than 14 inches to spare, and the invisible force that changes that gap every single day is stranger than the vessel itself

Sweden has unveiled the car that can leave hydrogen in its electric dust. Polestar is a name and emblem that not many in the automotive world are familiar with. But their new flagship car has two engines in one and has pushed the alternative fuel sector back into the room with the electric car. The world has spent some serious time and money on the alternative fuel sector and the EV in particular. This new car from Sweden has the world excited to see how far a new company can take the design and innovation of the electric car.

Who exactly are Polestar and where do they come from?

There have been a number of new companies that have been solely focused on the production and sale of the electric vehicle. Companies that were created with this market in mind. Most major car manufacturers have had to adapt their technology to meet the demands of the public and the ever tightening global emission restrictions. The need for innovation has taken the priority over everything else.

Polestar are a spin off company, essentially. The company was created by Swedish legend, Volvo. It must be said that they are two different companies and Polestar is not a brand under Volvo or some kind of fancy series of cars. They are two separate entities. Volvo created Polestar to focus on high-performance EVs. Volvo have their own range of electric versions of their most popular cars.

Polestar’s mandate was to make the kind of car that Volvo is lacking. A fast, sedan that has amazing performance figures. The new Polestar will have 408 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque. The torque has always been an advantage of the EV. The immediate power that you get from the EV is unlike anything else. The car will reportedly be on sale for $53,300 for the base model.

Can Polestar make a significant impact in the EV sector?

The EV market exploded when Tesla released their Model S sedan to the world. The sales the car experienced established Tesla as a company and established the EV market as one that we would be seeing a lot of. While the world is searching furiously for the next alternative in the energy sector. The EV was a great step in the right direction as far as the global citizen was concerned.

Since the emergence of other competitors in the EV market, the dominance that Tesla had on the EV sector was slipping. And lately it resembles more of a burning hand to be honest. So the world embraced the EV and the innovation race in the sector was on.

What might give Polestar the edge in the EV sector is the Volvo connection. Polestar’s cars resemble Volvo’s in many way. Not in obvious ways though. The design is very minimalistic and simple. And the build quality that the Swedes have become known for will no doubt help. The car will have a range of 260 miles and can do 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. That’s enough power to compete with the likes of Tesla.

Has Polestar confirmed that the EV is the car of the future?

When a company like Volvo creates a whole new company just to make high-performance EVs, the world has no choice but to pay attention. Granted, the attention of the global public has been elsewhere, making it challenging for companies like Polestar to make a significant mark in the EV sector.

However, their new car will have the potential to change all that. While the world is looking for something other than the EV to get around, this new car will have the real gearheads excited about the prospect of another fast car for us to enjoy.
