Wind turbines are sold as clean energy’s answer, and they are, but the blades turning overhead hide a recycling problem almost no one sees coming

Solar panels were sold as clean, endless power that asks for nothing once it is on the roof, but the 78 million tonnes of them retiring by 2050 hide a problem the industry built too fast to plan for

California planned to install 30,000 solar mirrors in the Mojave Desert until a group of desert tortoises showed up and said “Not here”

The search for sustainable alternatives using water is one of the driving forces behind science. While the world is moving towards a green future, companies from different industries are seeking to discover the next game-changer device. Going further, the new challenge for the industry is how to adapt these devices to people’s daily lives. This company may have achieved this goal, and it is now about to release the first device of its type to be delivered for consumers and beta testers.

A device capable of creating potable water from the air

The idea of producing water from atmospheric air is not a new topic among enthusiasts and scientists. After years of trying to develop a system capable of extracting water from the air, a company has improved the technology previously used by the Water Cube to create a miniature version of this device that will soon be in people’s homes.

With the changes made in this device, now people may have a countertop version that is able to transform humidity from the air into drinking water. Composed of a multi-layer structure with filters that absorb 99 percent of lead, PFAS, and micro-plastics from the air, this may be the ultimate version of this technology.

Meet Spout, a device that will change your kitchen forever, and this is how it works

Named Spout, this device is capable of creating potable water from the atmosphere, proving that sustainability is a concept applicable to people’s homes. To extract water from the thin air, this device uses a desiccant wheel that absorbs water from the air and then releases vapor through condensation. After this process, a condenser uses filtered air to cool and condense water that passes through a technological filter capable of re-mineralizing the water, making it potable.

Once the water is ready to use, it is stored in a UV-lit Spout pitcher that offers further sterilization, providing potable water that is considered good for health.

Besides the amount of technology, everything is condensed into a small device the size of a coffee machine that can produce 2.5 gallons of water per day. Spout also reinforces the tendency to adopt renewable technologies with adaptations to residential areas, such as this wind turbine that can be deployed at home.

It may be a sustainable and cheaper alternative to water delivery

According to Spout’s developers, this water-generating machine is 50% less expensive than water delivery, and capable of ensuring the saving of 8,760 plastic bottles per year, considering the normal amount used by a family of four people.

It is also economic and uses 380-600 watts of power, and it works in any climate with at least 20% humidity. Another feature implemented to help with sustainability is that the device turns off automatically once the water tank gets full.

Recently, the company announced that the device was sold out, and the first units were shipped to its owners and beta users. The CEO and co-founder of Spout company said that the developers are thrilled to deliver the first units to their consumers. “This is about more than just convenience, it is about empowering individuals and families to take control of their water quality while making a lasting impact on the environment”, states.

A new face for the Atmospheric Water Generators (AWT) at people’s homes

According to the company spokesperson, besides seeking sustainability, Spout also wants to promote healthier solutions for people’s lives. It follows the tendencies that we are seeing with the adaptability of devices normally used in industrial sites to the urban space. This movement is also perceived in other sustainable industries, and with more strength in the wind energy, which has been successful in this new challenge to integrate technological and sustainable devices into people’s lives.
