Ford has to carry out another widespread recall of close to 300,000 diesel vehicles over a fuel pump fault. The NHTSA says that this kind of defect has significant safety risks and it’s a definite black mark against one of the biggest—and usually one of the most trusted—auto manufacturers in the world. There are a number of models that have to go in for the fault to be resolved, and you can find the full list below.

300,000 Ford customers have been inconvenienced by another recall

An exact total of 295,449 Ford diesel trucks are at risk of a fuel pump fault that could cause mechanical failure and a loss of power output from the engine. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) warned that this increases the risk of a crash, and driver safety would be seriously compromised if this had to occur, particularly while traveling at speed or in heavy traffic.

The Ford Motor Company has been among the top players in the automobile sector for decades, especially in the United States. The popular proudly American brand is normally considered trustworthy among drivers, but that doesn’t mean its record is flawless.

Connecticut lawmakers say drivers are still being judged by rules written when smartphones barely existed

Maryland wants to install technology in your car that physically stops you from speeding

Cyclists and hikers pushed back for years, and now Chuckanut Drive’s famous coastal stretch is locked at 35 mph for good

The latest recall in a string of four has sparked a fresh wave of concerns about vehicle safety and highlights vehicle manufacturers’ responsibilities regarding the safety of drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and fellow road users.

In legal news, Ford is a bit red in the face after another lawsuit was filed over an EcoBoost issue. It’s a heavy knock, considering that the last time the company was sued, it cost the auto giant a whack of cash to rectify and caused substantial reputational damage to the brand.

How do drivers know if their vehicle is affected?

It’s reported that if the fuel pump fault presents itself, drivers may experience indications such as an extended crank while starting, a check engine light (CEL), an abnormal noise, and a drop in engine power. The problem is caused by biodiesel deposits forming on the fuel pump’s drivetrain roller components, which has the potential to cause the high-pressure fuel pump to fail.

As of January 2025, Ford had not been informed of any accidents or injuries as a result of the diesel fuel pump issue.

Which Ford models are being recalled?

These are the diesel truck models that have to go in so that the defective fuel pump issue can be eliminated:

  • 2020-2022 Ford Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600
  • 2021-2022 Ford F-650, F-750

As part of the solution, Ford will be providing free updates to the powertrain control module software. Notifications will be sent out to affected vehicle owners by January 13, 2025.

This is Ford’s 4th recall over safety concerns in 2025 alone

Ford is traveling a bit of a bumpy road at present. There have been a total of four safety-related recalls over the space of just a few weeks. Owner notifications for all of these listed below will be going out in January 2025.

  • More than 20,000 compact SUVs had to go in over a risk of battery failure, including the 2020-2024 Ford Escape and 2021-2024 Lincoln Corsair models.
  • Around 50,000 2024-2025 Lincoln Nautilus vehicles were recalled due to faulty power windows that may not detect obstructions, posing a risk of injury. The issue occurs when the window’s automatic reversal system does not respond correctly and the reversal distance does not meet the required safety standards.
  • Over 30,000 2019 Ford Flexes, Fiestas, and Lincoln MKTs had to be sorted out due to a problematic rear-view camera that intermittently shows a blank, distorted, or inverted image while in reverse, reducing the driver’s visibility.

In more positive news about American car brands, Elon Musk had to apologize to a bunch of new Tesla owners for the late delivery of their vehicles. But it was for a good reason. A fleet of futuristic Cybertrucks was dispatched to provide power and WiFi in one of the regions of California most affected by the week-long LA fires in January 2025.
