The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has issued an urgent statement for all UK beneficiaries. You should mark the key November dates, as you will get a surprise. The statement follows the staggering amount of benefits that go unclaimed annually, urging people to seize the day by discovering which benefits they may qualify for. With the temperatures dropping soon, utility bills are bound to go up, so now is as good a time as any to claim benefits for financial assistance this winter and beyond.

Surviving under the UK’s high cost of living

The cost of living in the UK is high in general, regardless of which region you reside. After the peak inflation rate of 2022, the cost of essentials has remained expensive, including energy, housing, and food expenses. With winter approaching fast, these expenses tend to experience seasonal increases, making it increasingly difficult to make ends meet.

Fortunately, there are several benefit schemes and forms of financial support to aid Britons this winter and onwards. According to a report by The Independent, nearly 24 million Britons are claiming a mixture of the DWP’s benefits, including the State Pension. That is approximately one in every three Britons. However, despite the high number of claimants, nearly £24 billion in benefits are unclaimed annually, as per Policy in Practice’s research.

That is why you should mark the key November dates for benefits, especially after the DWP issues an urgent statement for UK beneficiaries.

DWP issues an urgent statement for all UK beneficiaries

The DWP has confirmed that it plans to complete the transition of “legacy benefits” to Universal Credit by January 2026. A welcome surprise awaits beneficiaries, as not only will the State Pension receive a surprise boost, but other benefits will also. As of April 2026, Universal Credit beneficiaries can expect a 6.2% increase to their standard allowances. The majority of benefits will increase with the inflation rate, which has been confirmed to be 3.8%.

This is the list of benefit payments that UK beneficiaries can look forward to in November, as per usual:

  • Attendance Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Pension Credit
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • Universal Credit
  • Carer’s Allowance
  • HMRC tax credits
  • Child Benefit
  • Maternity Allowance
  • State Pension
  • Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Employment Support Allowance

These are the key November dates to mark

Benefits are not distributed together on the same date. You will receive your benefit payments according to the benefit type, as well as the date you received the benefit for the first time. Any benefit payment date that falls on a weekend or a bank holiday will be moved to the first prior working day. When the payment will reflect in your bank account depends solely on your bank and its automated system.

The DWP distributes Universal Credit monthly. Every four weeks after the first payment date, beneficiaries receive payments for PIP, Attendance Allowance, Pension Credit, Disability Living Allowance, and State Pension. The latter is distributed slightly differently.

State Pension payment dates

Pensions will be distributed based on the last two digits of National Insurance numbers:

  • Monday – 00 – 19
  • Tuesday – 20 – 39
  • Wednesday – 40 – 59
  • Thursday – 60 – 79
  • Friday – 80 – 99

Occasionally, payments may be delayed compared to the prior month. There is no need for concern, as your bank and/or its automated system are most likely experiencing a lag. In the case where payments do not reflect as expected, you are advised to reach out to your bank and ask if any payments are pending. If there is no pending payment, contact the benefits or pensions office (such as DWP or HMRC) next. While you await your payments, another benefit scheme that you may qualify for is the second payment in addition to the Winter Fuel Payment.
