This state is home to the Chocolate Capital of the World and the Liberty Bell. It is also home to many “firsts,” including the first computer, baseball stadium, and zoo. To top it all off, only citizens from this state will be paid up to $1,000 in rebate checks in July. Check today if you will be one of the qualifying citizens to receive some additional cash this month.
This state will be paying out rebate checks
It’s time to listen and learn, citizens of Pennsylvania! More than half a million citizens will be receiving rebate checks in 2025. Pennsylvania’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate program accepts applications through December 31. According to Governor Josh Shapiro’s office, 522,434 rebates totaling more than $319 million were sent to Pennsylvanians in 2024. Due to program expansions, 600,000 Pennsylvanians will qualify for these rebates in 2025.
Applying is easy and free. Applications can be done online, by mail, or in person. It is important to note that you should reapply to the program annually. If you have not applied yet, you may still have some time. Ensure you qualify for the rebates before you apply; otherwise, you will be wasting precious time.
Only these citizens will qualify for additional cash
Pennsylvania’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate program is intended to redistribute money to Pennsylvanians with low to moderate incomes, but only those who meet specific criteria, such as age and income thresholds. Shapiro stated that these rebate checks are crucial to seniors with fixed incomes, as they help to afford essentials such as prescriptions and groceries.
You must meet at least one of the following criteria to qualify:
You are a resident of Pennsylvania and:
- You are age 65 or older
- You are a widow/widower age 50 or older
- You are age 18 or older and have a disability
- Your household income is $46,520 or less annually
If you meet the above criteria and have applied by the initial deadline of June 30, 2025, then you will receive your extra cash sooner than you think. If you have lived at least one day in the claim year and meet the criteria, then your spouse, personal representative, or estate may apply for the rebate on your behalf.
This is the date you should highlight
As mentioned, the majority of qualifying citizens have already received their rebates starting on July 1, while others may have to wait a little longer, depending on the payment method they choose. The rebate checks will either be distributed via direct deposit or mailed.
Depending on your 2024 income, this is how much your rebate will be:
- 2024 incomes between $0 and $8,270 will receive up to $1,000
- 2024 incomes between $8,271 and $15,510 will receive up to $770
- 2024 incomes between $15,511 and $18,610 will receive up to $460
- 2024 incomes between $18,611 and $46,520 will receive up to $380
“I’ve heard for years from seniors, who are struggling to stay in their homes, who needed just a little bit of extra help, and how the property tax rebate is a critical lifeline for them.” – Shapiro
If you have not applied by the initial deadline, there is still some good news. Under Pennsylvania law, the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue extends the application deadline if additional funds remain. This year, due to additional funds remaining, the application deadline has been extended to December 31, 2025.
Various states have implemented programs that provide financial relief to their citizens in the form of stimulus or rebate checks. These programs are crucial to help mitigate the effects of the ever-rising inflation, tariffs, and the extremely high cost of living. Do not wait any longer. Take the bull by the horns by visiting the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue’s official website and sending in your application today!
