It might be true that money cannot buy happiness, but it sure helps a bit. A new Stimulus Checks program for May 2025 with an increase in monthly payments is bound to put a smile on at least one American citizen’s face. As economic pressure continues to burden millions of Americans, the latest news of stimulus check developments will bring much-needed financial aid to eligible individuals and households in May 2025.
May comes with a new Stimulus Checks program for Californians
The high inflation rates continue to affect millions of Americans and low-income families are experiencing stressful times when it comes to meeting essentials such as food, housing, and child care. Several stimulus programs were created during COVID-19, and many still work hard to ease the economic and social inequalities in excluded communities. One such program is the Family Support Economic Pilot Program (FFESP) in Sacramento County.
The FFESP aids eligible families with monthly $725 stimulus checks to provide consistent financial relief to families with young children, especially those from African American and Native-American communities in the California state capital. In addition to financial support, the FFESP reduces stress and helps families focus on raising their children without the constant worry of making ends meet.
The FFESP will randomly select approximately 200 participants between April and May. This means distributions should begin by mid-June. Only families who live below 200% of the federal poverty level will be considered for monthly payments of $725, and they must live in one of the following Sacramento zip codes:
- 95821
- 95825
- 95838
These people are eligible for the new Stimulus Checks
More good news awaits beneficiaries of Stimulus Checks. Two merged stimulus checks for $775 each may be distributed simultaneously in May 2025, which means eligible recipients could receive a combined $1,550 stimulus payment. Payments would be made to eligible citizens, specifically those who have already filed their 2023 or 2024 tax returns.
The following factors will determine eligibility for the stimulus checks:
- Income Thresholds (Based on 2023 Tax Filing)
- Single Filers: Up to $75,000 income
- Heads of Household: Up to $112,500 Income
- Married Filing Jointly: Combined income up to $150,000
Taxpayers with higher incomes might receive lower payments, with phase-out limits of $99,000 for single filers and $198,000 for joint filers. SSI beneficiaries, VA beneficiaries, and low-income earners with no regular filing status requirement will also be eligible.
How to ensure you receive your stimulus check this May
Make sure you are aware of the stimulus check payment schedule. Stimulus check distributions would start in mid-May 2025, with the majority of recipients receiving money between May 13 – May 27, 2025 (for direct deposits) and May 20 – June 5, 2025 (for paper checks mailed).
The IRS will use your most recent information from your tax return or government benefit portal to distribute payments, which will be done via:
- Direct deposit (if your bank info is on file)
- Paper check (mailed to your home address)
- Preloaded debit card (for those without bank accounts)
Beneficiaries are advised to make sure that their personal information is up to date with the IRS to prevent delays. They can also contact the IRS Stimulus Hotline at 800-919-9835 or they can visit their nearest local IRS center or Taxpayer Assistance Center.
Stimulus Check programs are very helpful, such as the Golden State Stimulus program that California offered to provide financial relief to low-to-middle-income residents, particularly those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the California Franchise Tax Board, a combined total of 12.9 million payments were made with a combined value of $8.8 billion. We hope that the US Government will continue with Stimulus programs, as it is a proven success in helping its citizens in need, especially with the ever-rising inflation rates and ever-struggling economy.
