Summer has officially ended, and many may feel relieved after all the extra expenses, such as travel and entertainment. For those who are feeling more financially strained than usual, we have some good news. An after-summer cash rain will start in September, where some of you will have three days where you can claim checks up to $5,108. Not everyone will qualify for these checks, and not everyone will be qualified for the maximum payment amounts. Find out today what you could qualify for.

The financial impacts of summer vacation

Each year, thousands of citizens look forward to a well-deserved summer break, and this year was no exception. For some, it is the best time to dive into leisure activities, especially as the days are longer and the weather is much warmer. From hiking to going to the beach to neighborhood BBQs. On the other hand, all these increased outdoor activities and social events can have significant financial impacts.

According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, U.S. summers are expensive. As the demand for seasonal goods, entertainment, and travel increases, so do the prices for leisure activities, accommodation, and travel. Other factors that also result in summer being more expensive include:

  • Labor shortages
    • Increased operational costs in summer result in higher consumer prices
  • Inflation
    • A prevailing economic condition that can further increase prices

Thankfully, certain citizens will see payments on three different dates in September, helping to alleviate the financial strain of summer.

After-summer cash rain in September for these beneficiaries

A new month means a new round of payments is awaiting you, qualifying citizens. That’s right, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will be sending out monthly Social Security payments again this month, and the first payment round will be sooner than you think! According to the SSA’s Social Security Fact Sheet, almost 69 million citizens rely on these monthly Social Security payments.

To ensure that the payment system does not become overloaded and that beneficiaries receive their benefits on time, the agency utilizes a set payment schedule to distribute these monthly benefits. Benefits are typically distributed on Wednesdays, and beneficiaries receive their benefits according to their birth dates. Note that the SSA has made this imminent change beginning in September.

According to the Social Security payment schedule, these are the three payment dates in September for these Social Security beneficiaries:

  • September 10 – Birth dates between the 1st and the 10th
  • September 17 – Birth dates between the 11th and the 20th
  • September 24 – Birth dates between the 21st and the 31st

Only these beneficiaries will receive the maximum checks

While the maximum monthly Social Security benefit is $5,108, not all beneficiaries will qualify to receive this maximum amount. Your maximum benefit will depend on the age at which you retire and start claiming benefits, as per the SSA official website. According to the agency, if you retire at your full retirement age (FRA) in 2025, your maximum monthly benefit will be $4,018.

However, you can retire as early as age 62, and if you do, your maximum monthly benefit will be $2,831, which is significantly lower. In addition, if you delay retirement to age 70, you will increase your maximum monthly benefit to $5,108. Do remember that 70 is the maximum age at which you can delay retirement, so choose wisely.

It is advised to consider your overall health and life expectancy when making this choice. Also, remember that the SSA has changed the FRA for certain beneficiaries, so this could also impact your decision. For those who are already benefiting from Social Security, at least you can look forward to some extra cash very soon. Make sure to add those payment dates to your calendars.
