America announces its largest deployment to date, with Meta, Amazon, and Google working together

Deployment of energy

When we think of deployment, our minds tend to immediately turn to soldiers getting ready to go to war. In this case, where America announced the largest deployment in history, the metaphorical soldiers are some of the largest tech companies who are all teaming up for one reason: “war.” Thankfully, this war forms part of a global fight against fossil fuels, and these companies’ pledges might just be able to turn the tide and win the war.

The largest deployment in history

A pledge was signed during the CERAWeek conference in Houston by major companies in support of the goal to triple the world’s nuclear energy volume by 2050. Per the World Nuclear Association (WNA), over the coming months, the pledge will most likely gain more support from industries such as maritime, aviation, and oil and gas. WNA facilitated the pledge. In 2023, a vow was made at the U.N. Climate Change Conference by more than 30 countries, where more than 20 governments signed, as well as some of the leading financial institutions in the world, which also aimed to triple capacity by 2050. This vow includes the US and financial institutions, including Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley. The new nuclear energy pledge simply adds to the 2023 vow.

The nuclear energy pledge

The WNA’s ‘Large Energy Consumers Pledge’ marks the first time businesses beyond the nuclear sector have publicly supported a large-scale expansion of nuclear power. The pledge is tripartite but emphasizes the increasing support for expanding nuclear power among leading industries, finance, and governments. Nuclear energy is becoming more sought after, as it is a clean source of power that supplies ongoing, stable energy.

Per WNA, from 439 power reactors, only 9 percent of the world’s electricity is currently produced by nuclear energy. As of the beginning of 2025, the world’s power reactors have a combined volume of 371 gigawatts. Many nations still heavily depend on imported fossil fuels, which makes them vulnerable to price unpredictability and geopolitical risks. This means nuclear energy’s volume expansion is also key to energy security. Even the tech sector is resorting to nuclear power after concluding that renewables alone cannot provide enough dependable power for their energy demands, which is why major companies have teamed up.

Major companies such as Meta, Amazon, and Google are teaming up

Major companies such as Meta, Amazon, and Google have signed the Large Energy Consumers Pledge to support the tripling of nuclear energy volume by 2050. Meta, Amazon, and Google are becoming more vital drivers of the US energy demand, as they are building artificial intelligence centers. Other major companies, such as Occidental and IHI Corp, also included their names in the pledge.

“As global economies expand, the need for a reliable, clean, and resilient energy supply is paramount. Nuclear energy, with its ability to provide continuous power, can help meet this rising demand. We’re excited to join alongside this multi-organisational effort with the Tripling Nuclear Pledge to reiterate our commitment to nuclear energy.” – Urvi Parekh, Head of Global Energy, Meta

Amazon and Google announced their plans to invest last October to assist in launching small nuclear reactors, technology that is still under development. The industry hopes it will decrease costs and timelines that have plagued new reactor builds in the US. Meta joined the cause in December, as they opted for nuclear developers to submit proposals to assist the tech company add up to 4 gigawatts of new nuclear power in the US. These major companies recognize nuclear energy as an essential pillar of clean, reliable, and resilient power production, essential for meeting the world’s ever-increasing energy demands. With the global transition to net-zero carbon emissions, nuclear energy is gaining momentum as a trustworthy alternative to fossil fuels.
