Summer is in the air, and this season will surely be filled with beach vacations, music festivals, and various outdoor adventures, not to mention the upcoming Fourth of July celebrations! With so many fun things to do, we could all do with some extra cash. Fortunately for qualifying families in this state, $725 monthly checks will be distributed this summer, with the first group already receiving their payments in June. Check today to see whether you qualify for these stimulus checks.
One state will be paying its citizens this summer
Sun, sand, and surf are what make California a popular attraction for many in the summertime, with regions such as Sacramento being favored as a family-friendly spot. Unfortunately, many local families in Sacramento still face severe financial burdens long after the COVID-19 pandemic. Thankfully, California instigated a program intending to ease the financial burdens that families face, especially with the ever-rising inflation affecting the cost of living.
The Family First Economic Support Pilot (FFESP) proved to be quite beneficial during the pandemic, which is why the state of California decided to continue with the initiative. The FFESP will be used to financially assist 200 randomly selected families directly to lower inequality in the region and ensure stability for those in need.
The program specifically focuses on the well-being of families and their children. It will distribute $725 monthly for one year to randomly selected qualifying families who struggle to afford necessities, including rent, food, and childcare.
Only these citizens will qualify for the checks
The FFESP will be a guaranteed additional income for parents and/or legal guardians who care for children. However, as with any program distributing stimulus checks, some requirements must be met to determine eligibility.
You will qualify for the FFESP if you meet the following requirements:
- You must be a legal guardian or parent of a child 0-5 years old in California
- The child must reside with you at least half of the time
- Your annual total household income must be at or below 200% of the federal poverty line
- You are not allowed to receive financial aid from other Guaranteed Income Programs
- You must reside full-time in one of the following zip codes:
- 95815
- 95821
- 95823
- 95825
- 95828
- 95838
Families in specified zip codes receive priority to help prevent children in those areas from entering the foster care system. The program randomly chose 200 families from these specified zip codes through a lottery system and would have notified the eligible families directly.
This is when citizens can expect their checks to be distributed
Applications, unfortunately, have already closed on March 30, 2025, but those who were selected through the lottery system will receive their money soon. According to the Sacramento Family First Program schedule, these fortunate families can expect the payments to be distributed on June 15, 2025, and will be distributed until May 15, 2026. These monthly checks are bound to make a difference and will be distributed on the 15th of each month to make monthly budgeting simpler.
According to the US Government Pandemic Response Accountability Committee, similar financial aid payments were distributed to families between 2020 and 2021, which included three rounds of payments. Nasdaq reported that more than 476 million payments worth $814 billion were distributed. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, numerous states have implemented programs to financially assist citizens.
With Sacramento part of the movement to provide a concrete and reliable program to aid its citizens to alleviate the economic burdens, we believe many more states will follow suit countrywide. New York has already implemented a program similar to the FFESP, which will surely provide hope to thousands of citizens. It is important that citizens remain informed about all the possibilities they have to help them make ends meet in such an uncertain economic time.
