If you are a Ford owner and perhaps just recently purchased a Ford model car, you might want to check your mailbox and continue reading to obtain more information about this recall. The globally recognised car brand recently announced a massive recall for 290,000 cars. There have been issues with a few models, and they may affect driver awareness and vehicle safety. This recent recall from Ford ranges from issues such as broken rearview cameras, and this is evidence that manufacturing a vehicle requires one to be particular to avoid these kinds of incidents that place the brand’s name in a compromising position.

The Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport Models are the subject of the first recall due

Due to issues with the 360-degree camera system that could cause a blank or black screen, about 130,000 Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport cars are being recalled. Additionally, a considerably broader recall of almost over 160,000 vehicles may have visibility issues due to a rearview camera defect. It’s critical to determine whether your car is impacted and to act promptly if you drive one of these vehicles to avoid the risks that follow.

The models targeted by customers are Bronco and Bronco Sport SUVS, particularly those from model years 2021 through 2024 are the main focus and are almost 130,000. Some cars with 360 cameras are showing a black or blank screen instead of an overhead picture.

This is tricky considering that drivers would want to observe their surroundings when parking or reversing.

Camera issues that impair visibility may crop up under certain environmental conditions

Tin oxide buildup is only a portion of the issue, which is dependent on environmental conditions. Due to internal connector misalignment during manufacture, Ford was unable to rule out permanent contact deformation. Video frames are lost as a result of the hardware root causes, which eventually lead to compromised circuit continuity at the internal coaxial connector.

The risks of the defect are not minor

Vehicle camera issues might seem minor, but they are major because a driver has the potential to bump into another vehicle, person, or anything close by if they cannot see when they are parking or reversing, which could pose risks to drivers, passengers, and pedestrians in the vicinity of the vehicle. In this case, a car as big as a Bronco, a camera is essential. Ford has received hundreds of claims and complaints; luckily, there are no injuries reported as yet. You can check the NHTSA 25V-273 report here.

Second recall: Over 160,000 vehicles may have visibility issues due to rearview camera defects

Check every model affected. Ford is fixing a flaw in the printed circuit board terminal header connector of the rearview camera that could be loose or broken in the larger of the two recalls. When this occurs, the camera’s image may become blurry or even vanish, which is obviously against the 2018 federal safety regulations for backup cameras. The affected vehicles include some of Ford’s most popular and widely used 2015 models:

  • Ford F-250, F-350, F-450 Super Duty trucks
  • Ford Expedition
  • Lincoln Navigator
  • Lincoln MKC

A rearview camera image that is blank or distorted might make it harder for the driver to see what is behind the car, which raises the possibility of an accident. The rearview camera will be replaced by dealers at no additional cost. On May 5, 2025, owner notification letters are anticipated to be mailed. Owners can call 1-866-436-7332 to reach Ford Customer Service. For this recall, Ford’s number is 25S42. This recall broadens the scope of recall 22v-082.

For more information about the recalls, you can check the 25V-270 and the 25V-273 reports from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
