In a world that is growing in consistent renewable energy such as solar panels, we are used to the traditional black in colour types of panels. However, a groundbreaking discovery has been made and it is the first one in history—a solar panel that changes colour to camouflage on the roof. A company called Sistine Solar has unveiled its SolarSkin solar panel technology, which has answered all the questions about solar and aesthetics.

Traditional solar panels have the challenge of being aesthetically pleasing

Over the years, solar panels have gained momentum and traction; however, as developments and advancements continue to improve, many individuals and companies prefer something more aesthetically pleasing that matches their designs and colour coordination. This has been an issue for a while whereby questions such as, “Our customer wants solar, but they need the panels to work with the aesthetics of their building. Can you make it happen?” are asked.

Homeowners and architects have had challenges with matching and incorporating solar panels that integrate with design functionality and because there have not been solutions to these problems, it has made many of them move away from solar energy despite its environmental and economic benefits. Some people are just more inclined to things looking in a certain way and still get the efficiency of it.

What looks like a renewable energy success story in Iceland is now revealing an unexpected problem underground

The main problem has just been being able to incorporate coloured solar panels. In other words, if the rooftops are gold, then one gets a gold solar panel just to match and to be aesthetically pleasing, as mentioned above. Therefore, in order to adopt a wider spread of solar energy utilisation, there has got to be a way solar panels are coloured and still provide the same efficiently to reduce carbon emissions.

SolarSkin solar panel technology by Sistine Solar to the rescue

The introduction of SolarSkin technology for architects has come to the rescue and answered the prayers for both individuals and businesses. The company is fighting against traditional solar panels to meet the needs of individuals who prefer something more advanced. There is nothing wrong with conventional black solar panels; however, some developments are just necessary to keep buildings and infrastructures more appealing to the eye.

To achieve the development of the SolarSkin, Sistine Solar collaborated with Ackerberg’s architecture partners, Alliance, from concept through the final selection of the designs. Their lead project designer and architect brought the vision to life by ensuring that it features the MoZaic East building, which is an aesthetically pleasing place and needs such a solar development. This can now also help other companies implement the same concept.

How does the future look if colour-coded solar panels are implemented?

In as much as we live in an era of sustainability and pushing for clean energy, we also live in an era of aesthetics. Therefore, whenever businesses have their buildings or infrastructures, there is a look that is executed to make it appealing to the eye; this can be for tourists or just general aesthetics. Therefore, having solar panels that can camouflage with the colour of the building will boost how we perceive solar panels.

Therefore, if mastered well, the future looks developed as other energy manufacturing companies can implement the same concept that Sistine Solar is doing. This advancement not only aligns with the world wanting to promote a green environment but also aligns with the preferences and cultural and design sensibilities to provide a more inclusive renewable energy dimension.

An important turning point in the development of solar technology is marked by Sistine Solar’s SolarSkin. Everything they have achieved has been thought about out of the box to accommodate both sustainability and appearance based on individual preference. This advancement not only makes solar energy more feasible, but it also improves the built environment’s architectural fabric.
