Summer is in the air. Along with summer comes a sense of happiness and a certain freedom, but for some, it may mean an extra burden while trying to make ends meet. Thankfully, nearly $800 checks will be hitting bank accounts, and the very first group will be receiving their checks today! There is one catch: Only certain people will qualify for the additional cash if they meet the specified requirements. Find out if you are among the lucky people who will be receiving extra money today.

Nearly $800 checks will be hitting bank accounts

California is paying it forward this summer as one of the state’s long-awaited stimulus programs is kicking off. The financial relief program, brought to Californians by the Sacramento County Department of Child, Family, and Adult Services, provides financial aid to hundreds of families trying to cope with the increased cost of living.

The California state grant mainly funds the program and forms part of a greater mission to prevent child abuse and lower the overall foster care system entries, especially among the Native American and African-American groups. The program will help families to afford essentials such as groceries, housing, and childcare, through unrestricted monthly payments.

This is the last straw — New Yorkers automatically owe $45 as mandatory payment quietly begins on February

“This caught retirees off guard”: One group will be forced to repay COLA increase in just 8 weeks

Social Security Disability payments are increasing — and for many Americans, it couldn’t come at a better time

The program, officially known as the Family First Economic Support Pilot Program (FFESP), will be distributing monthly stimulus checks to qualifying families with young children who meet the specified requirements.

These people qualify for stimulus payments

The FFESP will assist 200 randomly selected families, lowering their financial burdens and contributing to increased economic stability. The most financially disadvantaged families affected by poverty and institutional inequality had to meet the following requirements to be considered for the program.

  • You do not receive funding from other guaranteed programs
  • You are a parent or legal guardian of one or more African-American, American-Indian, or Native Alaskan children aged 0-5
  • The child/children must reside with you at least 50% of the time
  • You must reside in one of the qualifying Sacramento County zip codes
    • 95815, 95821, 95823, 95825, 95828, or 95838
  • Your total household income must be 200% below the federal poverty level
    • Two-person household limit is $40,880
    • Three-person household limit is $51,640
    • Four-person household limit is $62,400
    • Each additional household member adds $10,760

If your immigration status worries you, do not fret, as it did not affect eligibility. Families of any immigration status could have applied to the FFESP, which increased the program’s outreach to typically excluded marginalized communities. If you and your family were among the 200 randomly selected families for the FFESP, you will be receiving your first stimulus check soon.

The stimulus payments will officially start on this date

The FFESP selected 200 families from the qualifying applicants by using a lottery system. If you were among the 200 randomly selected families, you would have been informed between May 5, 2025, and June 6, 2025. Notices were sent via text messages, phone calls, and emails. All qualifying families will be receiving monthly stimulus checks of $725 for an entire year. According to the Family First Economic Support Pilot Program, the stimulus checks will officially be distributed:

  • Mid-June

Since mid-June was Sunday, 15 June 2025, the first group of people will likely receive their money starting this week, and the payments will continue until July 15, 2026. Selected families must note that they will have to present verifying documentation, such as:

  • Passports
  • Driver’s licenses
  • Permanent residency cards
  • Military IDs
  • Leases
  • Mortgage statements
  • Recent utility bills

State programs such as the FFESP indicated how crucial state and local initiatives are to assist low-income communities when federal funding is lacking. State programs have proven to be successful in counterbalancing inflation impacts and providing much-needed financial relief to local communities trying to cope with the increased cost of living. Other state programs, such as the FFESP, include New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s inflation refund program.
