Do you sometimes feel like packing your bags and leaving the country to look for greener pastures? If not, then your country must have some great qualities to keep you there, you know, besides your whole family and whatnot. Climate, safety, and cost of living are also key considerations. But what about stimulus checks? One state in particular pays one group of citizens more than $1,700 just for living there. Truth be told, they will be getting paid soon. Will you?
This state will be paying stimulus checks
We live in an era that evokes mixed emotions. Technology and healthcare are highly advanced, making life considerably easier, but we also face hardships such as high inflation and unemployment numbers that are through the roof. Thankfully, there are silver linings, such as federal programs to provide financial relief to citizens with limited income.
One state in particular will be paying stimulus checks to its citizens as part of its Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) program. The program is funded by the state’s surplus profits from natural resources, which are mainly oil. It is a clever initiative to ensure that the state’s natural wealth is not limited to profiting corporate organizations, but that the common man also gets his share of profit.
This generous state is none other than Alaska, and its PFD program contributes state profit to more than 600,000 qualifying residents annually.
One group of citizens will qualify for the payments
The key phrase to keep in mind is “qualifying residents.” It means only one group of citizens in Alaska will be deemed eligible to receive a check from the PFD program. You will be considered eligible if you meet the following criteria:
- You have been a resident in Alaska for the entire calendar year (2024) with the intent of remaining in Alaska indefinitely
- You have not been convicted or incarcerated for a felony during the qualifying year (2024)
- You successfully submitted a valid application form by the deadline of March 31, 2025
- You have valid government-issued identification, a valid Social Security number or ITIN, and proof of residency in Alaska during 2024
If you meet all of the above, then you will officially be receiving a stimulus check soon. What’s more, is that this year’s check will be 30% higher than the previous year. Each qualifying resident will receive a PFD check worth $1,702. The amount comprises the following:
- $1,403.83 is the regular dividend, which is fixed on the basis of the annual income of the fund.
- $298.17 is an additional bonus, which has been approved by the state government in the form of Energy Relief Assistance.
Payments will be going out on this date
It is one thing to know that you will be receiving a check, but it is another to know when you will be receiving it. Your application status for the PFD program will determine on which date you will be receiving your money. If your application status is “Eligible-Not Paid,” then you might be receiving your check sooner than you think!
These are the dates that payments will be made
- If you had an “Eligible-Not Paid” status by July 9, 2025, your check will be distributed on July 17, 2025
- If you had an “Eligible-Not Paid” status by August 13, 2025, your check will be distributed on August 21, 2025
The PFD program is more than just an economic plan. Citizens benefit from the financial support, but also experience a renewed connection to their state. Various other states have similar federal programs to provide their citizens financial relief, such as California’s Sacramento FFESP program. If you remain unsure of your application status, you can track your status by visiting the Alaska Department of Revenue’s official website.
