Having access to clean water is becoming more of a challenge as time goes by due to various factors such as climate change and water pollution that contaminate the water that we drink. With that in mind, researchers are working hard to find solutions to ensure the global community has access to clean water and thanks to technology, all the infrastructure and environmental limitations are being eliminated by this new development.
The advancement linked to clean water is called the Atmospheric Water Generators (AWGs), which directly extract water from the air, and a good example is the WR-2 model by WAIEA Water, which is designed to produce up to 10 litres of water every day offering small office business and households sustainable, accessible and clean water.
The generation of water from the atmospheric air
When we think of air, we might wonder, “How can it convert to drinkable water?” However, the whole process mimics the natural process of dew formation. The device is made in such a way that it collects the humidity found in the air, cools it down and then converts it to water droplets. The process is ongoing until litres of water are seen and drinkable.
In regions where there is a lot of humidity, this technological development will thrive and produce efficient water. It will also play a role in reducing water scarcity and providing water to the communities. The WR-2 model amplifies this whole idea since it thrives in residential regions where people can just drink the water for daily hydration and consumption. It is not meant for things like washing or other huge water consumption activities.
The WR-2’s features and advantages: A small and effective water solution
At times, a development should not be huge to be regarded as efficient and that is exactly what the WR-2 is proving. It was essentially made to meet basic household needs, such as drinking water in a bottle or a glass. It can produce 10 litres of fresh water every day. Additionally, it is energy-sufficient. According to research by WAIEA Water, it has an energy consumption range of 0.015–0.245 kW, which is economically good for the pocket.
The design is slick and aesthetically good for a basic home or business office and the functions are user-friendly, making it easy for one to understand how it operates. Besides that, it is environmentally friendly in the way that the water is extracted from the air; one does not need to rely on bottled water always, for it helps reduce pollution or litter to keep the environment cleaner and reduce the carbon footprint caused by transportation.
Optimal performance through installation and maintenance
Setting up the WR-2 does not require complicated steps; it is just an electrical outlet that can be placed in any suitable place because it is not a big thing and is very flexible. Its dimensions are 17.3″ x 10.2″ x 18.9″. Just like any other electrical product, maintenance is required to ensure consistency in clean water production and, if needed, some replacements are to be made by the manufacturer.
Issues related to safety, taste and environmental effects
Because this is not the normal, common or traditional way of producing water, it could raise a few questions, such as, is the water really safe to drink, and how does it taste? The good part is that when developed, manufacturers installed advanced filtration systems to remove impurities so that the water could meet the expected clean water standards.
According to research, users have claimed that the water tastes clean and fresh, with some stating that it is even better than the typical bottled water. The environmental effects are positive; there are no carbon emissions or the extraction of earth’s components to produce the water. There are just environmental conditions whereby production will be different due to the change in humidity and region.
