Built to haul 3,600 tons over the Wasatch Range, the world’s largest steam locomotive hides a trick inside its 133 foot frame that lets it bend through a mountain curve

Soviet engineers built a 73 meter “monster” armed with six missiles to ride the invisible force that lifts every airplane in its final feet above the runway, and that same force just became a two seat vehicle anyone can buy

They built 13,500 ton machine called “Big Muskie,” the largest ever to walk the Earth, to rip the coal out of rural Ohio, and the 10,000 acres it tore apart are now a savanna where rhinos and giraffes roam

Let us just say, you stand next to an aeroplane and hear absolutely nothing, not even a buzz from its engine. That is a breakthrough that a Tennessee-based company called Whisper Aero made by inventing an electric propulsion system engine, which is 1000 times quieter than a jet engine. For your own information, this is not exaggerated; it is real. Mark Moore expressed that the company is following a realistic method with its Whisper Drone and Whisper Jet platforms, built on technology that does not require much, for instance, the requirement of new business models and infrastructure, according to Vertical.

It is quieter than a library, and science supports that

Just to give you context, based on what CEO Moore said, they are focused on conventional take-off and landing aircraft that can achieve breakthrough capabilities instead of spending lots of money on vertiports. Additionally, with the use of existing technology, the company wants to create a nine-passenger, drone-like commercial aircraft that can make use of the aviation infrastructure that is already in place.

Now, imagine something quieter than a library. Whisper Aero’s design is so unique and extraordinary that the only option was to compare it with a library. According to the Gouvernement du Quebec, the sound of a calm library is about 40 dBa, and we can also compare it to a quiet street at nighttime or a gentle whisper. In this case, Aero’s design is quieter than a library and 100% clean.

It is not “magical” that the engineering team decided on this quiet engine initiative; however, aeroacoustic engineering at its best is the cause of this quietness. The engine is not like the sound we are familiar with, especially with drones or small aircraft. The fan used distributes sound in a very unique way that maintains stillness and silence. Therefore, the aircraft can pass by your home without interrupting your meetings or quiet workspace.

Designed for a new era of sustainable aviation and completely clean

One thing is for sure: Whisper Aero considered sustainability. While it is groundbreaking to invent something so quiet, peaceful, and efficient, it is important to realise that the world we live in today wants to do anything in its power to permanently erase toxins that are released into the air and harm the environment.

To date, the aviation industry contributes 4% of global pollution. The Whisper Aero propulsor is fully electric, which means zero emissions. Other traditional aircraft use resources filled with CO₂, but this one uses electricity, giving us assurance that no air pollutants are emitted while operating in the air. Moore said its existing invention utilises “existing batteries”.

The promises of a peaceful and quiet sky

This promise matters because throughout generations, even until now, aeroplanes have always been noisy and can disturb a lot of things and settings that need silence. That is why some individuals and enterprises had to come up with soundproof solutions due to noisy aircraft. Whisper Aero’s plan does not need an expert to comprehend what they are doing.

The U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Special Operations Command collaborated to create the AFWERX HSVTOL Concept Challenge, and Whisper Aero was just chosen as one of 11 businesses to advance to the next stage in this high-speed VTOL initiative. Ian Villa, COO of Whisper Aero, stated that as part of its HSVTOL work, the business would look at scaling up the thrust of the propulsors for these high-speed VTOL applications. It would be interesting to see how silence and technology integrate. Learn more about noise levels and their effects from the Gouvernement du Québec.
