This state’s county is paying it forward
Good news for citizens living in California’s Sacramento County, as the county will be paying it forward very soon! Sacramento County’s lifesaving Family First Economic Support Pilot Program (FFESP) is continuing its good work this month in an attempt to address financial insecurity and ensure the well-being of families. The FFESP will distribute no-strings-attached income to parents and legal guardians of young children.
The FFESP officially kicked off in June 2025, with hopes that the direct financial aid would redefine the stability of numerous Sacramento County households. The United Way California Capital Region, partnered with Sacramento County’s Department of Child, Family, and Adult Services (DCFAS), manages the program. Federal subsidies from the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and private donors fund the FFESP.
This is the qualifying group of citizens that will receive payments
The FFESP prioritizes families with children between the ages of 0-5 and who live below 200% the federal poverty level in certain zip codes. The FFESP randomly selected 200 qualifying households that will benefit for 12 consecutive months. These households met the following criteria:
- Have a child between the ages of 0-5 years:
- Either be a parent/legal guardian of such a child
- Not receiving guaranteed income from another pilot program
- Cannot presently participate in other government or privately funded guaranteed income programs
- Residency
- Must reside in the qualifying zip codes, i.e., 95815, 95821, 95823, 95825, 95828, and 95838
- Total household income:
- The annual household income is below 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL)
According to Marca, the 200% FPL income limit varies depending on a household’s size. For example, households of 2 have a limit of $40,880, households of 4 have a limit of $62,400, and households of 8 have a limit of $105,440. If a household comprises more than 8 people, then each additional person adds $10,760. These stimulus checks are most certainly a welcome addition each month, and the next one will be distributed soon.
The $725 stimulus checks will be distributed on this date
The FFESP is vital, as it helps the qualifying citizens to afford essentials, such as housing, groceries, and childcare. It also addresses systemic inequities in the county by prioritizing Alaska Native, African American, and Native American households for these monthly payments. Each qualifying household will receive $725 monthly for 12 months, and these payments will continue until May 15, 2026. That totals up to $8,700 per household for 1 year.
Payments will be distributed in this format:
- Direct Deposit
- Payments are made to the recipient’s bank account for fast and secure access
- SAFE Bank Accounts
- Some recipients may use SAFE accounts for payment delivery
- Usio Debit Card
- For families without bank accounts, payments are loaded onto a debit card
Recipients can expect their next payment on August 15, 2025. What’s more, these stimulus checks are non-taxable and non-repayable. It is important to note that recipients only remain eligible if they maintain residency in one of the qualifying zip codes.
Besides financial relief, the FFESP also offers support services, including community resource accessibility and financial counseling. State programs such as this one are vital for local communities, as they result in higher disposable income, which also aids local businesses. They also contribute to child development by enhancing well-being, education, and long-term outcomes. To learn more about the Family First Economic Support Pilot Program, visit the official website.
