One state in the United States is the birthplace of some fine foods, such as the enticing buffalo wings that are so popular at sporting events. The state is also known for its philanthropy, especially sending stimulus checks, which brings us to the great news for this state’s citizens. $400 checks will be hitting bank accounts much sooner than anticipated. See if you might also qualify today. Who knows, you could be spoiling yourself or your entire family with a nice treat or two very soon.

This is why stimulus checks are important

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, economies have been struggling to recover all over the world. Not even a strong nation such as the United States remained untouched by the impacts. Federal funding has helped to alleviate the financial stress of citizens during that period, and many states have continued to distribute similar financial relief programs, as they have proven to be lifesavers to millions.

According to the Washington Center for Equitable Growth, financial aid in the form of programs or stimulus checks is vital to prevent unemployment and, inevitably, a recession in the U.S. The financial aid to U.S. citizens will essentially kill two birds with one stone, namely:

  • Supporting workers and low-income families to make ends meet
  • Automatically stabilizing the macroeconomy by preserving spending and consumption levels despite higher unemployment rates

It is essentially a circular effect. Without financial aid, the unemployed lose income, which means they spend less. Businesses within the community would experience revenue loss, resulting in more potential layoffs. This is why one state in the U.S. will be distributing stimulus checks to qualifying citizens soon.

Only these citizens from this one state will qualify for the checks

Buffalo wings and all aside, if you haven’t guessed it, the one particular state we have been referring to is none other than the state of New York. This state will distribute its first-ever “inflation relief” refund checks very soon. These stimulus checks are a planned initiative by Governor Kathy Hochul to help New Yorkers cope with the high cost of living, especially following increased sales tax revenue due to inflation.

The criteria to qualify for the checks

Any New Yorker will qualify for the checks if they meet the following criteria:

  • Their New York State Resident Income Tax Return (Form IT-201) for tax year 2023 has been filed
  • Their reported income is within the qualifying limits
  • They were not claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer’s return

The state will be distributing the $400 checks soon

If you meet all the requirements regarding the New York tax return for 2023, then you do not have to do anything else, as you should automatically receive a check. According to the New York Taxation and Finance, not everyone will be receiving the maximum checks of $400. Amounts will be determined according to income and filing statuses.

Refund amounts per income and filing status

  • Single filers
    • Incomes $75,000 or less will receive $200
  • Single filers with incomes over $75,000 but no greater than $150,000 will receive $150
  • Joint tax filers
    • Incomes $150,000 or less will receive $400
  • Joint tax filers with incomes over $150,000 but no greater than $300,000 will receive $300

According to the New York Department of Taxation and Finance, checks are being mailed starting September 26, 2025, with deliveries continuing throughout October and November. If you do qualify, then all that is left to do is to sit back and relax. The money will be hitting your bank account soon, all without having to lift a finger – not too shabby, right? New York State is not the only one planning to put a stop to the vicious cycle. As you await your stimulus checks, have a look at this state program that will be paying out soon, too.
