History and future collided in the UK, all thanks to China! The first AI-powered car was revealed to the UK market at Old Billingsgate earlier this year. This Chinese automotive company ensured a grand entrance after creating history by showcasing the future. Not one, but two new models were launched in the UK, exciting car enthusiasts and AI enthusiasts alike. Today, we will be spilling the tea on these two new models that turned some heads and made competitors a little green with envy.

The automotive company behind the first AI-powered car

Guangzhou Xiaopeng Motors Technology Co., Ltd., trading as XPeng Motors, commonly known as XPeng, is a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer. Xpeng made history after launching two new electric vehicles in the UK. The launch event was held at the most befitting venue, Old Billingsgate, London.

The first EV model, dressed in fiery orange, could be glimpsed as attendees walked the red carpet to the entrance. It was touch-and-go for the second EV model, but she made it just in time to the launch event and was much-deserving of equal admiration as the first.

The AI-powered car models that filled enthusiasts with glee

Xpeng has officially entered the UK market on February 13, 2025, with the pre-sale of the electric G6 SUV and an introduction to the people carrier X9, which is not yet on the market.

Xpeng G6 SUV

This electric SUV combines good-looking curves with pioneering technology. Xpeng cleverly downplayed the front of the car, adding a sleek light panel that stretches across the width of the front face, hinting at the EV’s high-tech groundwork.

The G6 boasts a spacious cabin, a large floating touchscreen, and a voice-activated Avatar system, showcasing AI’s bright future in cars. The front seat sports a double 50W wireless charging with ventilation function and promises complete relaxation with its ability to recline back almost 180 degrees. The driver’s seat offers an extra eight-way electric adjustment and four-way lumbar support.

The Xpeng G6 has two variants. The entry-level Xpeng G6 has a 255 hp engine and is suitable for a WLTP range of 270 miles (435 km). The second variant of the Xpeng G6 has an increased power output of 282 hp and is good for a 354-mile (570 km) range.

Xpeng G9

This seven-seater car offers a tech-packed cabin for the family. The aerodynamic silhouette showcases a strong diagonal crease line in the flanks while black A, B, and C-pillars break up the mass. The X9 also has a sleek light panel stretching across the front of the car.

The spacious cabin has a panoramic glass roof, is customisable, and has a hot and cold refrigerator. Families can enjoy a 21.4-inch infotainment system display, wrap-around central air conditioning, ambient lighting, and a 23-speaker audio system. The soft furnishings are rounded with real wooden accents, creating a welcome contrast to the interior technology.

UK enthusiasts will pay this much for the futuristic cars

“We are excited to bring a new era of smarter, more sustainable mobility to the UK market and globally. With XPENG’s cutting-edge proprietary technology – ranging from futuristic design and impressive range to ultra-fast charging.” –  Dr Brian Gu, Xpeng vice chairman and president

Per Car News China, the Xpeng G6 Standard Range costs 39,990 GBP (49,855 USD) in the UK. The Long Range variant costs 44,990 GBP (56,090 USD). While the Xpeng G9 is not for sale in the UK yet, enthusiasts should stay attentive because it has been reported that this family car might be on the UK market next year.

Those who could not be part of the historic event that showcased these futuristic models, we hope that we at least managed to mesmerise you. As for BYD and Xiaomi, eat your hearts out!
