Ford issues two new recalls

Ford is recalling multiple models for repair. Recalls become more frequent as the years go by and the technology advances. Now, with combustion vehicles existing in the same world as electric cars and hybrid engines, the chances of manufacturers making mistakes during assembly are high. In the last couple of months, not only Ford, but also Tesla, Toyota, Honda, and many other major car brands have been recalling previous models to fix minor mistakes that may change the ultimate performance of a vehicle.

Recalls are normal, but in 2025, it could become routine

Recalls are issued not only by manufacturers, but also by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which ensures the safety of specific vehicle owners who might have a car needing minor adjustments. Sometimes, assembling a full combustion engine or a full electric powertrain is easier than assembling a hybrid engine that requires the best of both worlds while not adding too much weight to the cars and maintaining performance at an all-time high.

On the other side, companies that are not 100% committed to the development of only electric vehicles might make an old customer buy an updated version of an old model, which probably has a hybrid version to ensure it doesn’t scare those who don’t wish to buy a full electric car. Ford has been recalling many vehicles in 2025, and some of them were already scheduled to be repaired, but a mistake during the recall process led the company to issue another one.

Ford issued two recalls in the same month

In September 2022, Ford Motor Company recalled over 125,322 hybrid versions of the Escape, Lincoln Corsair, and Maverick because the engine could fail prematurely, leading to the loss of oil and fuel, which increases the risk of a fire. All cars that showed up for repair were adjusted, but some did not receive the correct powertrain control module software version, so a second recall was issued for some vehicles that went through the first.

On the second occasion, only 1,797 vehicles built between 2020 and 2023 had to be returned. Since there were three different models assembled in two distinct facilities – one in Mexico and the other in Louisville – the cars cannot receive the same piece of software. On the other hand, the manufacturer confirmed that 97% of all cars recalled in the first instance had the correct software version installed.

Second recall for five models

Now, Ford has also issued another recall for five other models built between 2023 and 2025. The Escape (2023-2025); Lincoln Corsair (2023-2025); Lincoln Nautilus (2024-2025); Bronco Sport (2025); and Maverick (2025) all had a design flaw in the block heater in certain 1.5 or 2.0-liter EcoBoost engines that can overheat when the heater is plugged while parked.

The consequence of such a failure is damage to the engine coolant, which can cause leaks and illuminate the engine warning light. Some customers reported the loss of heater performance as a result of coolant loss. The manufacturer will inform the owners of these vehicles on June 13, 2025, but the problem does not have a solution yet, and Ford is working towards developing a fix, which should be available during the second quarter of 2025.

Take a pre-look at the recall

Recalls are a normal part of the car industry. They happen more often than most people realize, and aren’t always signs of serious failure—just that something needs checking or replacing. Interestingly, some car owners don’t even wait for the official letter from the manufacturer. If their vehicle’s VIN shows up on a public recall list, many take the initiative to visit a trusted local mechanic and get the issue looked at right away.
