heavy snow forecast in winter

As we’re left with the last stretch of the year, this month did not arrive with a holly, jolly spirit; rather, low temperatures are expected with a high chance of heavy snow in 5 states. In the northern part of the country, the climate has been changing drastically, drawing the icy currents from up north and altering future forecasts. Predictions read that low temperatures have started earlier than in previous years and that it is advised to dress warmly.

A snowstorm is brewing early in Winter

While Christmas trees are being put up and decorations are being hung, meteorologists are monitoring a powerful atmospheric formation that will put a halt to traveling and outdoor activities. Although it is a typical winter storm brewing, it comes off as violently premature. The roads will be dangerous as the temperature difference will freeze over the wet surfaces into ice sheets, so anyone who goes out will have to be extremely cautious.

North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan are the states that will bear the brunt of the storm. In a report by WeatherBug, there is a low-pressure system that is sweeping over these five states, pulling cool Canadian air. Winter storm warnings and advisories have been posted to ensure the safety of the people within these communities.

It is predicted that there would be up to two feet of snowfall in special high-risk zones

The high-risk zones hit by this will have to endure the most crippling conditions, such as some areas of North Dakota and Minnesota that may experience 3 to 6 inches of snow. According to WeatherBug Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan could get 6 to 12 inches of additional snow.

It is a high possibility that some areas that harbour a strong lake-effect may even get more snow, where it might pile up 2 feet or more of snow. Strong winds of between 40 and 50 mph are the driving force of this snowstorm. This will most likely mean that the snow will be blown away, but at the cost of visibility. So it is expected to have zero visibility of road users on Interstate 90 and 94.

Prolonged forecasts indicate that this cold snap will carry into the beginning of December

Unofficial Networks and the USA Today trackers point to the fact that it is probably the start of a colder-than-average trend. As the storm proceeds to southern Canada by the morning of Thanksgiving, the cold air it leaves will continue depressing thermometers far below normal temperatures.

The headline is not an exaggeration at all. Temperatures are really dropping because wind chills are expected to get down to single digits, or even lower, and, therefore, turn the slush into ice overnight. This December, unfortunately, all five states will still be engulfed by a deep freeze and experience bitter cold conditions that are limiting, setting this festive season for unstable weather forecasts.

It’s early to be staying indoors in December, but it’s for the best, considering the heavy snowfall

This intense winter snowstorm acts as a serious wakeup call to the Northern Plains and the Upper Midwest, bringing massive snow and a bitter freeze just in time to welcome the holidays. The residents of the five states are advised to be cautious and prepare for dangerous weather since the snow keeps accumulating and the visibility remains close to zero. At very low temperatures, this frozen beginning of the month of December indicates that a long and difficult winter awaits. Officials are urging residents to avoid driving if they can and stay updated with local weather, as conditions are not set in stone and can change.
