Some North American states are implementing recently approved changes to their license plates. After being ratified this month and approved by the House and the Senate in the General Assembly, a bill determines the changes to be applied to the license plates in another state. But the reason for the changes does not have a relation to the number of vehicles or limitations with the old version. This time, the changes made by this state will result in a commemorative standard license plate to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.

A major change: License plates will have a totally new design

After being ratified, the bill now awaits enrollment and the governor’s signature to become law. It specifies that the new design must start to be issued to drivers from January 2026 and will be valid for 10 years. According to the authorities, the idea is to honor a pivotal period in American history through the design of the new plates.

Once it is approved, drivers must say goodbye to the standard license plate from South Carolina, with the lovely palm tree and a crescent moon in front of a white and blue background. Changes will be extended to the current slogan, “While I breathe, I hope” which must be substituted for other words.

As said before, the new license plate will be a way to honor and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. The design will be created and submitted by the South Carolina Revolutionary War Sestercentennial Commission. Besides any visual content, the new license plate must contain the words: “Where the Revolutionary War Was Won.”

This is the new design of South Carolina’s license plates

According to House Bill 3175 in the South Carolina General Assembly, the design, emblem, seal, logo, or other symbol of the new license plate must be submitted to the South Carolina Revolutionary War Sestercentennial Commission. In addition, the plate must have a minimum flag with the word LIBERTY written in white against an indigo background.

Also, in the upper corner of the flag, the Moultrie Flag should be positioned to complete the new design. A new plate should be designed every 10 years. Recently, another North American state promoted changes to its standard license plates, but the reasons are far from different.

Drivers will receive the new plate soon

If the governor signs the new bill without promoting any type of modification to its content, the new law predicts that the license plates should be issued to drivers from January 1, 2026, through December 31, 2032, completing a 10-year cycle. It happens since the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles is required to renew the license plate designs every 10 years.

The new design will represent a major change and mark a significant shift for vehicles, while it represents an important historical period for the state. Once it is ready for approval, the South Carolina Revolutionary War Sestercentennial Commission will submit it for the approval of the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles.

Besides being announced, the definitive design remains unveiled

Besides being announced, the new design for South Carolina’s standard license plates remains unveiled since it is still in development. While the citizens are anxious to discover the result of the plate makeover, a careful curation is being conducted to ensure that the new license plate gets the desired message across. It may seem unusual, but changes to license plates are normal and can be done for many reasons, although it may represent a lot of work for the DMV. Recently, another US state decided to change its license plate because the current model is running out of numbers.
