It’s not every day that one of the most reliable European carmakers tells drivers to stop riding the car because of a brake problem. Citroën has issued a new recall for the C3 model. Owners in the UK should pay attention to their brake pedal because it might fail at any time. While the brand has not issued many recalls in 2025, this one hits hard because the brand was clear in its message to the owners. Now, it’s time to get it fixed, so the vehicles can be back on the road soon – and you won’t be without a car since they will give you another one.
Recalls coming from everywhere: Citroën is not safe
While the Citroën recalls are not in the spotlight like other brands, they are still very much seen. The carmaker is known for building reliable, daily-use comfortable vehicles that can withstand multiple challenges. As one of the most dominant French manufacturers in the world, the company doesn’t have its name associated with cars that give owners trouble – especially if you are buying the special editions.
While this recall came as a surprise for the C3 and C3 Aircross models, Citroën is acting fast on the matter and making sure drivers will have the assistance they need. In 2025, multiple recalls were issued by the carmaker, with these two models and the DS 3 being the main ones, as the company was clear about what the drivers need to do while the problem is not solved: stop driving.
C3 owners should pay more attention: Your car could be ‘broken’
Citroën Safety Recall Check warned the owners of the new C3 and C3 Aircross in the UK to stop driving their vehicles due to a potential brake problem. Some versions of both models might have a brake pedal assembly that does not meet specifications, which could affect braking performance. The safety issue affects the entire C3 lineup. That means the 2025 Citroën C3, the 2024 e-C3, the 2025 C3 Aircross, and the 2025 e-C3 Aircross are all potentially at risk.
The same problem also applies to the new Vauxhall Frontera and its electric version. So far, though, UK customers haven’t received these vehicles, which is why no formal stop-drive notice has been issued for them yet. Even if the brakes fail, safety systems like automatic emergency braking and the electronic parking brake would still work, the company says. To protect drivers, they are offering replacement vehicles while affected cars are inspected and, if needed, repaired.
The carmaker issued another warning in 2025: Check the affected models
As the UK gets their guidelines for cars tighter in 2025, companies will have to double-check the size of the cars if they want to make business there. This isn’t their first recall in 2025. Earlier this year, several models—including the Mk2 C3, the 2010–2012 C4, 2009–2019 DS3, and others—were recalled over a Takata airbag issue. Stellantis, Citroën’s parent company, says it’s committed to handling the problem quickly and responsibly, and encourages any concerned customers to contact local dealers or customer services.
Safety comes first: They won’t leave you without a car
Stellantis says about 1,100 of the affected cars have already reached UK drivers. Owners of these vehicles are being offered courtesy cars while their brake pedal assemblies are checked and, if necessary, fixed. The company emphasizes that customer safety comes first. During routine quality checks, Stellantis discovered that some right-hand-drive C3 and C3 Aircross models might have a pedal box assembly that does not meet specifications, which could affect braking performance. The cars should be ready to go back to the buyers soon after they are taken to a mechanic. Meanwhile, there are other carmakers making important moves in the UK.
