America has unveiled its most ambitious project to date. They claim to be able to absorb the atmosphere 4000 tons at a time. What exactly they mean by this has now come to light. A US based startup called Equatic has developed a system to collect 4000 tons of seawater and use that to capture CO2. A truly remarkable project. The world is fast approaching an energy crisis. This new system has the potential to reverse the adverse effects we have had on the environment. However, with any project will come some speculation and questions.
What have Equatic made possible with their new innovation?
The Los Angeles-based startup has claimed that their ocean based carbon system not only collects the harmful carbon we are responsible for, but also has another aspect that could serve us all in our search for a sustainable energy source. It is only a matter of time before the world is forced to find an alternative to the hated fossil fuels. And this could be the answer.
Equatic claim their system is able to collect 4000 tons of seawater and through a new process is able to collect the carbon without creating any harmful chemicals. The water is then returned to the sea and the carbon is stored along with some other significant elements. One that might be of particular interest is hydrogen. A new obsession for some in the energy sector.
The system uses a process that the end result is pure, green hydrogen. And it can store it. The world has been hard at work in an attempt to make hydrogen the fuel of the future. Huge investments have been made and the fact that Equatic can provide us with hydrogen from the ocean has changed possibilities in the energy sector.
Is this the latest step in our hydrogen powered future?
The emergence of the alternative fuel sector was evidence that the world understood the needs of the future. Our reliance on fossil fuels has had a disastrous effect on the planet. Electric vehicles and hydrogen cars featuring the latest technology in alternative fuel are increasingly present on roads around the world. And the options are vast to say the least. A simple search can result in a vast amount of choices.
The available options for the climate-conscious consumer are endless it would seem. Everything has some sort of alternative power option that is kinder to the environment. And it should be. Our responsibility to find an alternative fuel source has been the necessity needed for invention and innovation. As is the case with Equatic and their new carbon collection and hydrogen production system.
While the positives are there for us all to see, some have pointed out the possible negatives the project might have. Some have stated that the project could disturb the marine life in the area and create what’s known as “dead zones”. Despite this, the US government has approached the company about possible large scale applications of the technology.
Could we see Equatic systems all on the world’s beaches and shores?
Despite some questioning the effect on the wildlife in the area of operation, it seems the Equatic system is in full operation. With the world making some major improvements in sustainable energy sources, we must see this new system from the US startup as a potentially viable system to reduce our carbon footprint on the planet. The future of ourselves and our children depend on systems like Equatic being made and developed. We can rest assured that some people have found a way to work on our collective future.
