Ford recall

A pilot flying 4 passengers over South Africa felt something cold slide across his back mid flight, and what he found hiding under his seat is a danger almost no flight check ever looks for

A supertanker left a Venezuelan port carrying about 1.8 million barrels of oil, and the shadow trick it used to fool maritime trackers reveals a hidden ocean that nobody was watching

Every massive cargo ship drops what looks like a hook the size of a car, and the thing that actually holds 100,000 tons of steel in place is something almost nobody ever sees

The Ford Motor Company is lucky to have such a loyal customer base, considering that the brand is at the top of the list of most recalls in the United States. Yet another recall has been issued for Ford motor vehicles and this time, owners will be more annoyed than usual because the fault to be rectified is actually a re-recall.

Although the number of units affected this time around is in the thousands once again, it’s only not even 3% of the original number recalled for the identical fault the first time around. But it’s taken the American auto powerhouse more than two years to realize during a quality audit that another recall had to go out.

Ford issues yet another recall: Is your vehicle on the list?

In 2022, the Ford Motor Company had to recall almost 400,000 large SUVs and pickups over a software fault involving trailer brakes that could cause a loss of functionality. Drivers assumed the fault had been rectified after booking their vehicles in at a dealership to have the software (provided by Horizon Global) updated, which was naturally done at no cost to owners.

More than two years later, the same fault has been discovered in some of the same models that went in to have the software update. Of the original 391,836 trucks and sports utility vehicles affected under the first recall in 2022, around 10,600 of those were found to have had the incorrect version of the integrated trailer relay module software installed during the update.

Which models are being re-recalled?

The affected models include the Ford Maverick, F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, and Expedition. The Navigator, which is produced under Ford’s luxury subsidiary company, Lincoln, is on the list. The years of manufacture are 2021 and 2022. This is the full list of potentially affected models and years:

  • 2022 Ford Maverick
  • 2021–2022 Ford F-150
  • 2022 Ford F-250
  • 2022 Ford F-350
  • 2022 Ford F-450
  • 2022 Ford F-550
  • 2022 Ford Expedition
  • 2022 Lincoln Navigator

The Maverick is the only one of these manufactured outside the United States in Mexico. All the others were produced at US facilities.

How do Ford owners check if their truck or SUV is on the recall list?

To date, no reports of accidents, injuries, deaths, or any adverse incidents have been reported to the Ford Motor Company related to the trailer brake fault.

Owners will receive notification of the fault by post, and the letters are set to go out between April 14 and April 18, 2025. The letters will contain details of the defect and how Ford owners can go about having it rectified. Ford and Lincoln dealerships will be notified before April 14, 2025.

There’s another proactive avenue Ford owners can take if they want to find out if their Maverick, F-Series, Expedition, or Lincoln Navigator is being recalled. First, they need to have the vehicle identification number (VIN) on hand, which is a 17-digit character sequence of numbers and letters that can typically be located near a corner of the windshield or in official documents like the vehicle registration. Owners can then visit the Ford or Lincoln consumer website and search with the VIN.

Ford has had to issue recalls on recalls before

Ford is being pelted with figurative tomatoes over a whopping eight recalls that were issued on the same day. Many of these are re-recalls, which will have the Ford Motor Company’s executives more red in the face than usual. Statistics show that Ford is the leader in recalls in the US and have also been sued over the EcoBoost engines. A total of four models have now been affected by eight different defects.

For more information about this recall, you can check the 25V-132 report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
