Some citizens will receive payments in a few days
The federal agency called the Social Security Administration (SSA) is a foreign concept to a few people, but most start gaining knowledge of the agency during their working years, especially citizens who are nearing retirement. If you do not want to wait that long, then we advise you to start paying attention. The SSA manages and distributes social insurance to Americans.
Millions of Americans rely on this social insurance and receive it each month in the form of benefits. These benefits help them make ends meet and afford essentials such as housing, health care, and groceries. According to the SSA, the agency manages six types of benefits, including:
- Retirement benefits
- Disability benefits
- Survivor benefits
- Family benefits
- Supplemental Security Income benefits
- Medicare
Among those six types, only one type will be paying out its beneficiaries in just a few days.
Only this group of people will be receiving maximum checks
In just a few days, beneficiaries who qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits will be receiving a check. To qualify for SSI benefits, the following criteria must be met:
- You are an adult with limited or no income
- Total income is less than $2,019 from work each month
- You are an adult with limited or no resources
- Resources are less than $2,000 for individuals
- Resources are less than $3,000 for couples
- You are an adult with a disability, are blind, or are age 65 or older
- You are a child with a disability or blindness
It is important to note that not everyone will be receiving the same amount. According to the SSA, the 2025 SSI maximum payment will be:
- $967 for an individual
- $1,450 for a couple
Some factors will impact the amount of your monthly SSI benefits. The 2025 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) has slightly boosted beneficiaries’ monthly checks compared to 2024, thanks to a 2.5% increase. But other factors must also be considered, such as additional income, state supplements, and living conditions.
This is when you can expect your payment to be made
Now that you understand who qualifies and how much you potentially can receive, it is also crucial to understand how or when the SSA distributes benefits. As mentioned, benefits are distributed monthly, but not at random. The SSA utilizes a set payment schedule to ensure that the system does not become overloaded and that beneficiaries will receive their benefits on time.
SSI benefits are usually distributed on the first of each month, but sometimes there is a hiccup, which is why the SSA has a rule of thumb. Should the first of the month fall on a weekend or a public holiday, the SSI benefits will then be distributed on the earliest business day prior to the first. As for August’s SSI benefits, there is no hiccup. According to Social Security payment schedule, SSI beneficiaries can expect their next SSI check on:
- Friday, August 1, 2025
If you do not receive your benefits as indicated by the schedule, the SSA recommends you wait at least three mailing days before you reach out to the agency. Understanding the ins and outs of the SSA and its benefits will help you plan your budgets accordingly.
