July is nearing its end, which means for many citizens, a stack of utility bills will be arriving soon. While bills are a nuisance in general, they can be pretty nerve-wracking when an unexpected bill or two makes its way to your doorstep. Thankfully, the next SSA payment will be hitting pockets in a few hours, and selected citizens can expect payments up to a whopping $5,000. Fingers crossed that you are among the selected few to get the maximum payment in a few hours.

The SSA will be making payments in a few hours

The federal agency known as the Social Security Administration (SSA) has been playing a significant role in the lives of millions of Americans for the past 90 years. The agency distributes social insurance in the form of Social Security benefits and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). More than 70 million retirees, people with disabilities, and survivors are dependent on these benefits.

For most, Social Security is their main, and in many cases, the only, source of income. Social Security is distributed every month to assist these beneficiaries in affording basic living expenses such as food, housing, and medical care. Understanding how your Social Security benefits are determined, when they are distributed, or how they can vary over time is key to planning your monthly budgets accordingly.

Social Security Disability payments are increasing — and for many Americans, it couldn’t come at a better time

This is when beneficiaries can expect their payments

The SSA distributes all benefits according to its predetermined payment schedule. This ensures that the system does not become overloaded and that all beneficiaries receive their benefits on time. Social Security benefits are typically paid on Wednesdays, and the order of distribution is determined by a beneficiary’s date of birth.

According to the Social Security payment schedule, Social Security beneficiaries who fall under the following categories will receive their Social Security benefits in a few hours:

  • Beneficiaries with birth dates between the 21st and the 31st of any given month
  • Social Security benefits will be distributed tomorrow, July 23, 2025

As mentioned, only selected citizens will be getting the maximum Social Security payment. However, even those who qualify for the maximum may not receive the full amount. The reason for this is that the SSA will begin cutting benefits to overpaid beneficiaries at the end of July, as reported by Iohud. This cut in benefits will apply until all overpayments have been paid back to the agency in full.

Only selected citizens will be getting the maximum payment

If you do not receive your Social Security payment on July 23 exactly, the agency suggests waiting three working/mailing days. It should reflect on time for the majority, as 99% of beneficiaries receive electronic direct deposits. If your personal information is up to date on the agency’s system, then you should be getting your usual payment amount. According to Ascensus, certain factors can impact your monthly amount, which include:

  • Your 35 highest-earning years, adjusted for inflation
  • Your birth year, which determines your full retirement age (FRA)
  • The age you start claiming benefits
  • Spousal and survivor benefits

According to the SSA, your maximum Social Security payment is highly dependent on your FRA. You can retire and start claiming benefits as early as age 62, but that will reduce your monthly payments. Here is a simple breakdown:

  • Claiming Social Security at your FRA in 2025 will be worth $4,018
  • Claiming Social Security at age 62 in 2025 will be worth $2,831
  • Claiming Social Security at age 70 in 2025 will be worth $5,108

Delaying the age at which you start claiming your Social Security benefits is essentially the loophole many people do not know about. However, as mentioned, there are many other factors to consider when it comes to your monthly benefits. For now, let’s all just be happy for those receiving payments tomorrow!
