With the increasing search for natural sources of hydrogen, a discovery could forever change the world. While searching for a natural source of hydrogen, scientists stumbled upon an even more shocking discovery, one that could be causing a series of explosions that could permanently damage this important mining site. Now, it is necessary to figure out how to avoid this situation to access the riches located inside this mine. In order to achieve this goal, the scientists are eagerly studying the components found inside the mine.

An unimaginable discovery was made inside this mine

According to the scientists involved in the discovery, the group began exploring the mine after a series of explosions were identified at the site. Although they expected high concentrations of hydrogen in its pure form to be involved in the occurrence, the scientists were not prepared for another discovery that was made at the mine.

Amidst the promise of hydrogen, researchers entered the mine and encountered great mining potential that goes beyond the large amount of hydrogen located inside, capable of producing up to 200 tons per year. Due to the conditions of the discovery, a series of delicate tasks will need to be carried out at this mining site, which makes everything even more delicate.

Chromium and Hydrogen, the two great discoveries

During investigations carried out at the site, scientists came across a large “jacuzzi” capable of producing hydrogen in its pure form. The effervescent pool, as it was called by scientists, has highly explosive potential and can hinder operations in the mine, which is also rich in chromium.

The discovery of ore and other compounds in the Bulqizë mine in Albania took scientists at Grenoble Alpes University in France by surprise. Still unable to explain the causes os those explosions, scientists have discovered that the hydrogen located in the mine has a purity of close to 84%. Despite this, it is not yet possible to know whether the purity of the gas is linked to the other precious materials found.

The mine in question is predominantly structured in the oceanic crust, with a composition called ophiolite. When exposed to high pressures and temperatures, this structure can generate reactions when it comes into contact with water, forming other minerals and generating methane and more hydrogen.

A large space filled with chromium

According to maps and images showing the interior of the mine, it is possible to identify that a large part of its composition is mainly chromium. This chemical element is considered a transition metal that has a dark gray color and is known for being highly resistant to corrosion. Due to its composition, it is one of the main compounds used in the production of metal alloys, specifically stainless steel.

Essential in various areas of industry, it is mainly used as a base for the manufacture of hospital equipment. But its usefulness is not limited to this, as it can also be used as the basis for compounds for the production of pigments in paints and ceramics, as well as being a powerful catalyst in chemical reactions.

The components located in this mine have the potential to last for many years

As the world continues to search for alternative forms of energy, the discoveries made inside the Albanese mine may be decisive for this goal. With the high levels of hydrogen close to purity found there and the vast amount of chromium inside, the mine may have the capacity to generate products for years. Although there is an idea of the site’s potential, scientists continue to study the interactions between the components located inside it, but it is known that it certainly draws attention for its capacity to extract natural and low-polluting hydrogen.
