It began as a simple drill in the desert — Then engineers realized they had uncovered the first breakthrough in decades with power for 87,000 homes

Drill finds geothermal energy in desert

A simple drilling project in the desert has revealed a potential energy resource for the world.

The energy market is in a constant state of evolution. For the past century, oil and gas have been the dominant forces in the international energy industry.

But the renewable energy market has been growing at an unprecedented rate. Even so, it also has its own issues and limitations for large-scale energy production.

An Australian wind farm caused chaos when it switched from generating power to something quite different and ended up in court, and now operates under a nighttime ‘curfew’

Someone thought covering the Sahara with 10 million solar panels was a good idea. Now they’re creating dark rain clouds and reshaping the climate

A hydroelectric dam in the Amazon was operating normally until millions of fish began disappearing and it was suddenly abandoned overnight

What exactly has been found that could power 87,000 homes?

How the international energy market has shifted its attention

As we said, oil and gas have dominated the global energy industry for well over 100 years.

But recent developments in renewable energy technology have been making waves in the sea of power. As of two years ago, renewable energy has accounted for a staggering 92.5% of all new electricity capacity added to the global grid.

The investment tipping point is near, as global investments in clean energy reached $2 trillion only two years ago.

The adoption of clean energy by the vast majority of nations has created a scenario that will see renewable energy surpass oil by this year, if everything goes according to plan.

The “oil era” was the best of times, it was the worst of times

That saying rings especially true in the current energy market.

The reliance on oil and gas has created a volatile energy industry that, at the drop of a hat, could see the price per barrel of black gold skyrocket. The most recent military operations in the Middle East have seen the price of oil hit a new high.

Oil is so profitable that a clandestine “oil highway” has been discovered that is selling huge amounts of sanctioned Russian oil.

The question then becomes, while the renewable energy sector gains momentum, and we slowly phase out the use of oil in our everyday lives, what alternative power generation method is waiting to be unearthed? Most of us are ready to go beyond solar and wind power.

A new discovery has been made that may provide a few answers. An official press release from Zanskar details the latest energy dream for the world.

Geothermal energy is a ground-breaking form of power production

The US-based company Zanskar has found several pockets of geothermal energy around this great nation over the past few years.

The company normally relies on surface-based indicators to provide a “roadmap” of what is taking place deep down beneath the Earth’s surface. But Zanskar recently made an astonishing find of a geothermal pocket of energy near Tonopah, Nevada.

Geothermal energy refers to the heat stored beneath the Earth’s surface that originated from the planet’s formation and has been slowly building up over time.

The basic process involves drilling into the Earth’s crust to access pockets of geothermal heat and then extracting and processing it into energy. However, Zanskar has mostly developed its geothermal energy by relying on surface-based indicators.

A “Big Blind” has been discovered in Nevada by Zanskar

The company has stated that it discovered the latest reservoir of geothermal energy in the arid desert of Nevada by using no surface-based indicators, meaning that the “blind” pocket of energy has now been found without conventional methods or systems.

While some focus on developing new wind turbines or revolutionary solar power systems, Zanskar has found geothermal energy by using the Big Blind, a first for them or any other energy company.

As we now understand the dark side of oil and how dangerous the process of refining it can be, geothermal energy could provide massive amounts of clean energy, but the cost of developing the technology to extract it on a commercial scale is not yet 100% clear.

Despite the issues, geothermal energy could become the latest energy resource for our collective needs.
